Where are the choices here?

These fundies would go nuts if they saw how the women dress at some of the churches here in Houston.

There is a hugh jass church here called Lakewood church where the ladies are beeee-utiful.

As silly as Christianity is, I like to go to that church just to hit on sexually oppressed christian young ladies. some of the sweetest ass I've ever had came from that church.

I find it funny that the people defending the dress code here find it so horrible that the muslims make the women dress in burkhas. I guess I wonder when people will realize that the female human body is a thing of unmatched beauty, not a weapon of satan.

Not sure what you're saying there Ytram... nothing I said implied that I thought Christians were the only prosthelytizing faith out there... certainly they aren't. I simply believe a bit of humility on the part of most faiths would make for a happier, more tolerant world... Christians take their knocks on Fark since in western society they are in the majority (not true for the globe of course). The hypocrisy, self-righteousness and intolerance of some Christians shines a bit brighter than that of other groups due to that majority status and the endless sermons and prayers aimed at converting those of minority or different faiths.

Their specification of clothing standards at Liberty is so exacting and seemingly divergent from and altogether separate from more commonly accepted interpretations of the bible that one is forced to call into question even more of their tenets. Talk to someone from Liberty U or someone classifiable as a fundamental Christian... the majority of them would naturally prefer to see all others meet their moral standards (including dress code) and practice their faith... because all others are in error.

The Christians who are derided on Fark are primarily the intolerant, prejudiced and hypocritical ones... but naturally there are statements made that are too general or are interpreted as such. Inarticulate speech on Fark is often miscontrued as inexact thought or pure ignorance when something has been said in a certain manner purely for the sake of brevity (which my post lacks).

Christianity has quite a bloody and violent history, duh, (as do other religions) but perhaps their sins of the past are the more well documented because they have taken place within and with the blessing of "modern society." Thus the evil that some Christians do casts a bigger glare...

And on Fark we see numerous examples... without having to dig to look for them for posting... of things like Liberty U.'s clothing standards that remind us of the tyranny of intolerant majorities and our shots taken at their expense are "our" way of fighting back.... of holding the line against repression and dampers on freedom for those not of their faith... It is not necessarily a statement that Christians shouldn't be able to practice their faith in a unique manner.

Just as not all Christians can be lumped together... not all Farkers can be lumped together as intolerant.

NathanAllen writes:

"Get this, they think they are the only people on the path to true enlightenment and everyone else has to mill about for a few other lives to even reach where they are!"

No that would be Western religions that believe there is only one path to reach a goal.

In ancient Rome people pretty much freely joined cults dedicated to a whole variety of gods, some Roman, some Greek imports, some imported from the Near East. Then of course everyone also joined the cult of the Emperor, or were persecuted...Christians naturally did not, thus the reason why many of them died for their faith.

Christianity, with its roots in Judaism follows that whole jealous God thing. Religious monogomy as it were. Don't even think about looking at other gods. No divine lap dances, no Playgod. Naturally of course just saying "I love God" isn't enough, no sir...there is also a proper way to show it and organize for how to show it. Early Christian leaders were very clear on that point. Actually they were mostly concerned about splintering what was considered by Rome to be an annoying minor faction of a minor eastern religion at the time, but later readings of their words aren't interested so much in context.

Speaking of later readings, naturally some other stuff from other faiths, and other ways of thinking creeped into Christianity over the centuries, and naturally not everyone bought off on the changes. However, the whole jealous God thing was always there. Thus Christians fought Christians, sabotagued efforts by other Christians to acquire territory and convert people in non-Christian parts of the world, and engaged in all forms of intrigue amongst themselves in part because they didn't want to have their way of being nice to God be thought of as improper (aka Heresy) should it fall too much into the minority.

These days the civilizations that Christianity tends to predominate in have advanced to the point that they no longer take heretics out to burn them. Ok, make that usually...if they can hang an illegal weapons charge on them and some unsubstaniated drug/child abuse allegations, then they burn them...but I digress. In this environment, with no set standards for proper worship, there arise people who feel they have the ultimate answer to everything, and if you don't follow "the narrow goat path to God" that they outline you burn in Hell when you die, no exceptions. That there might be multiple narrow goat paths to God does not occur to them. Indeed, to follow their goat path you must hand over 10% of your income (trail guides are expensive--and they require premium transportation and facilities) every year and spend a minimum of an hour of your time every Sunday getting the instructions for following the goat path drummed into your head. It also is critical that you have some sort of water ceremony performed at some point (Christians don't agree universally when) and publically proclaim your faith and admit you've been a bad person up til now. Well, some Christians allow you to do that in a booth.

So there it is. Hopefully if you are Christian your trail guide is leading you in the wrong direction. Thing is, you won't know for sure until you find your pants smoking if it was indeed the "right" goat path...

...or you can just read the books for yourself, mediate, be
ethical, save your 10% and share your views on God with others.

The bodys biological responses are one reason pornographys effects are so powerful. Research reveals biochemical and neurological responses in individuals who are emotionally aroused, regardless of the stimuli. The adrenal hormone epinephrine is released, locking memories into the brain, and explaining why men can remember pornographic images seen years
before. Chemicals called opioids, released by nerve endings in response to pleasure, then reinforce the bodys desire to repeat the process.

In other words, chemical responses to sexual arousal and gratification cause the body to desire to repeat a rewarding behaviorwhich may be the use of pornography. Thus the biological drive to return to rewarding behavior can lead to an actual dependence or addiction.

In addition, the release of epinephrine and opioids in the body are associated with both the triggering sexual image and the message it conveys. Thus the biological response to pornography rewards and hence reinforces the messages presented - which, as discussed earlier, often include anti-social attitudes about women, relationships, and behavior. Simply stated, in terms of pure body chemistry, sex sells!

HappyDaddy: That's total crap. I could use the same argument to say that all religious people are in the KKK because they have similar dogmatic beliefs. I think fewer than 1% of athiests would classify themselves as nihilists.

Anyway... I'd take a world run by athiests anyday because you can at least tell they're thinking with their own mind.

Liberty does seem like the wrong name for this school. I went to a liberal arts college though, and no one could make me go to Liberty U. Unless it was to be like the scene in Animal House where they pick up the dead chick's roommate.

Now we're just attacking for the sake of attacking. There's nothing very bizarre about the story of David and Goliath.

I agree with you. Hypocrisy is why Christian failures are interesting to farkers. The point I was working towards, however, is that many statements made here at fark extend the hypocrisy to the entire faith and all who practice it. This is simply not the case and is a prejudiced view of Christianity. I don't consider it to be persecution, just the proliferation of a skewed viewpoint.

With regards to email, whenever you get to it. As I mentioned, I would like to know more about your opinions on the site I linked you.

buster, if I remember I thought goliath was only like 9.5 or 10 ft. tall. Still bizarre and quite impossible, but not quite 70 ft.

And, to adress an above comment implying that the country would go to hell if left to the "heathen people" (right...), you don't need to believe in god to do good, to help out your fellow man, or to take stands for what you believe is morally just.

That's a strange thing to say. Atheism (not agnosticism, mind you) is at least as irrational as any major religion.

Okay, here's what I could come up with in 30 seconds

1) The current attack on abortion rights.

Abortion is a moral ethical issue, and Pro-lifers are not entirely made up of Christians
2) The attack on teaching of evolution in schools.

What about the attack on teaching of creation in public schools? That is always left out, and we are intolerant when we think kids should at least have the option of hearing both sides.

3) Movements towards censorship of sexual content in music
and other areas of the entertainment industry.

Again, this is a moral issue, not a Christian one. Not all Christians are in favor of censorship, and not all in favor of censorship are Christian.

4) Bans against gay marriage.

As far as I know, gay marriages are already banned in most states.

There is nothing wrong with teaching creation in a religion class or cultural history class. However, to place it beside a scientific theory which at least goes through the scientific method (hypothesis, observations, data, etc) is a total joke.

If this is what you want, I also want my theory based on the Greek gods taught in science class, as well as L. Ron Hubbards discussion of Xenu in Physics.

My guess, 50% of the people going to that school get sent by their bible thumping parents still trying to control what their kids do. The good news is I'm sure alot of future adult film stars are getting a good education there!

And it's kept that way thanks to a lot of Christian right lobbying. Or is this also a moral issue that is not supported by the religious right at all?

Check this page out... http://www.liberty.edu/StudentAffairs/index.cfm?PID=1378

Highlights:
$35 fine for "attendance at a dance"
$35 fine for "visiting entranceway of opposite sex"
$70 fine for "posession of an R rated movie"
$100 fine for "association with those consuming alcohol"

Best one for last though:
$35 for visiting the dorm of the opposite sex, $70 for visiting their hallway, $100 for visiting their bedroom, $150 for spending the night with them...

Geez. That totals $355 payable to LibertyU just for a romp in the sack... These guys should check out the local market next time they review their pricelist!

Did David encounter giants in his day-to-day life? Are you honestly trying to claim that a man of Goliath's reported height has never lived?

I'm not defending the whole Bible, but this particular story doesn't strike me as particularly unlikely.

I just went to see 1,000 corpses at the Cinemark this past Saturday. I was one of 8 people in the theater.

There was a group of an older woman and her early 20ish daughter, a late teens early 20's couple (Guy and Girl the guy kept covering his eyes then leaving and coming back), and a middle age woman and her three preteen kids (2 boys and a girl) they left shortly after the post dinner entertainment. What kind of person would see the title of that movie, and think oh this will be fun for the whole famn damily!?

Earlier this year while I was in Lynchburg I tried to go see LOTR: TT for the second time. About 20 minutes into the movie the usher brought in 6 old ladies, each with a note pad and pencil, since the theater was crowded they sat around me. They were taking notes on the movie; I could hear the pencils scratching on the notepads. Every once in a while one of them would suck their teeth in disgust. One of them asked me how to spell Smeegal and that was when it hit me: They were writing a review for a church bulletin on how evil it was. After that I couldn't enjoy the movie so I got up and left.

Then of course everyone also joined the cult of the Emperor, or were persecuted...Christians naturally did not, thus the reason why many of them died for their faith.

Not quite. People were asked to worship the Emperor's genius, or guardian/tutelary spirit. It was considered little more than a public act of patriotism.

Jews were allowed to ask their own God's protection for the Emperor. Christians just outright refused, on the basis of keeping religion and the state seperate.

So they were persecuted, not for their religion, but for their perceived treason.

Just as mainstream Christians persecuted (and in one case, castrated) Jehova's Witnesses in the 40s because the latter refused to pledge allegiance to the flag.
