i just dont see how making the students dress a certain way will keep them "closer to god." just because something is "in style" or "in fashion" does not make it a sin. jsesus said that the things that are most important are a love of god and loving others as you love yourself. he doesnt care if you have a halter top on. it seems to me that worrying about all these regulations would take away from their time from god. they need to step back, remove stick from ass, and let the kids worship how they want.

I hope they did this with their eyes closed so as to not see the manequins in their undressed states.

If I had a daughter, I'd never send her to a school that was populated by such raging, drooling, perverts that a slit above the knee could inflame their passions uncontrollably.

I'd send her to a school where near-nudity was so common that even the frat boys would be bored by yet another chick in a tiny bikini.

On the other hand, I'm fairly sane, so maybe that doesn't count...

Attention ladies: The Great Invisible Purple Unicorn that created the Earth has decreed that showing one's boobies will sentence you to eternal damnation, but walking around with your vagina hanging out is no problem at all.

What do they have against knees? Is seeing a woman's knees going to set men off in an erotic frenzy? Next thing you know it'll be ankles, and soon they'll just have to wear military chem suits. (Or are those too form-fitting?)

That university has "unaccredited" written all over it.

I grew up going to a Baptist school (only Protestant school around, unfortunately; still better than the NJ public school system). Liberty college was one of the 3 colleges that we kept being "encouraged" to attend after we graduated. The other 2 were Bob Jones Intolerance U and Pensecola FL. Which means that Liberty was the *least* repressive one they were pushing.

Thankfully, my parents had raised me to have a mind and will of my own. There was no way I was going to go anywhere that refused to believe I could make responsible decisions myself.

Pornography presents men/women in stereotype, as insatiable sex machines to accommodate every possible sexual request. Men/Women, it tells us, are here to please women/men, and if they say "no" it is just token resistance. In pornography, the typical man/woman is always ready, available, and eager to please, unlike a real man/woman who might have inconvenient expectations of his/her own."

2003-06-24 12:25:38 PM
Pants? On women? For shame. I bet they're wearing mixed fibers too, and the Bible tells us not to do that, either.

The 'no shorts in administrative buildings at ANY TIME' sign made me think of this little scenario. Two good, Jesus-loving girls are out jogging. Suddenly a horrible, heathen bear comes out of the woods and mauls Terri. Jolene goes into the closest building.
"Dean Ofwomen! Terri just got mauled by a bear!"
"And you're out of dress-code. Get out before I have you thrown out."

That's better.

2003-06-24 12:26:46 PM
Robobagpiper really all Christians molest kid? Therefore all have no right to have any sort of morals set.

Secondly Liberty is not a Catholic university, Christian clergy can marry as they please.

Try to get your overgeneralizations in line.

Since nobody has said it yet...

I'd hit it!TWICE!

You may now continue your semi-intelligent conversation...

2003-06-24 12:27:16 PM
Ahh yes, Kevbo, and Christianity is the only faith that is proselytic. Despite the fact that that is not true, Christianity is the most commonly mocked faith on Fark for being intolerant.

2003-06-24 12:27:19 PM
I have to agree with Robobagpiper about the cross-town prayer vigil. They should have prayed privately if they really were praying for the students. To go to the campus suggests they were looking for recognition.

"When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full" Matt 6:5

2003-06-24 12:27:33 PM
The very fact that this is newsworthy on fark suggests that farkers are looking for reasons to make fun of Christianity.

Personally, I didn't know this was a Christian college, and I found it hilarious anyway. The dummy thing is inherently humourous.

If FARKers tend to rag on Christians, don't just biatch and whine about it. Stick up for yourselves with rational argument. Tell us why this dress code is sensible, and dummys are not to be laughed at.

2003-06-24 12:27:44 PM
I'm not up on my Bible literature so maybe someone can help me out here, but according to the stroy of Adam and Eve aren't clothes a purely manmade invention. God was perfectly happy with them running around naked. It wasn't until after they were tricked by the snake into eating the apple that Adam and Eve felt any need for clothing.

The logical conclusion (yeah I know, religions and logic rarely mix)fromthe story would be that God could care less about clothing. Maybe they should worry more about making themselves good people as defined by the teachings of their God instead of whether women should were pants.

2003-06-24 12:27:55 PM
So... is walking around bare-ass naked better? I think pretty much everything in my closet is "offensive" in some way.

2003-06-24 12:28:05 PM
Did anyone else check out the Male Dress Code page and notice the unacceptable bandana picture?

2003-06-24 12:28:23 PM
Herchen- From the Pesacola Christian handbook

"Men 20 years old or juniors may date
faculty/staff members off campus without a chaperone
to local homes and restaurants. They may also date on
campus, as can women students dating faculty/staff, to
the Social Hall, the Palms Grille, at church services,
Fine Arts Series, Vespers, and recitals."

i'd love to see where the piper said that all Xians molest kids... (scrolling back)

Private college. They make their own rules regarding dress code. What's the big deal? If you feel you're being repressed, go somewhere else.

It's not when Christians moslest kids that makes news, it's when people who pretend to be moral authorities molesting kids. In other words, those would make moral demands on others not fulfilling those same demands for themselves.

Nabob said:
What makes the news here at fark? Christians who molest kids. Why? Because they are held to a different standard (rightly so in my opinion) because of their professed beliefs. The fact that Christianity as a whole is ridiculed for the acts of the guilty, though, is intolerance.

I think we basically made the same point.

BTW - did you receive my email? Interested?

If God was against nudity you'd have been born fully clothed

2003-06-24 12:31:06 PM
MrVeach
There are bible verses on modesty. They were trotted out to my youth group all the time when I was a teen. Don't remember them now, though.

Again, I say let them do what they want. But I do think that it's slightly hypocritical that these are the same people who are trying to impose their standards of modesty on the nudist camp in Florida.

NO ONE is defending the dress code rather pointing out the hypocrisy surrounding ridiculing the dress code. I don't see how anyone who did that has put an arguement up any less rational than those mocking them.

2003-06-24 12:31:55 PM
Arbitrary rules, like ritualistic behavior, add illusionary meaning to a seemingly random existence.

2003-06-24 12:32:21 PM
"If God was against nudity you'd have been born fully clothed"

The only problem is the shirt buttons would really chafe the birth canal.

If god had meant us to take showers, he would have given us upward facing armpits.

/not relevant, but WTF

2003-06-24 12:33:19 PM
feh.. people choose to go there for a reason, so I am sure they aren't complaining.

Why do any of your care what they have to dress like?

If they dont'.. umm should you?

2003-06-24 12:33:49 PM
jesus saves. federov scores on the rebound.

2003-06-24 12:33:56 PM
I don't see anything hypocritical in ridiculing the ridiculous.

The reason people aren't providing an argument that it is ridiculous is that it is axiomatic for most people. 1+1 is 2, and mandating width of shoulder straps is dumb.

2003-06-24 12:34:10 PM
Quite surreal. Eventually these kids are going to be free to do whatever they want, and the real world isn't going to be as sheltered as their little school. You can't hide your kids from the world forever, you might as well have them face it and come to terms with it.

2003-06-24 12:34:29 PM
I bet Jerry Falwell gets off everytime he sees that photo.

He probably also gets off when he sees:

Aww yeah baby, bend over, present that fine purple ass for Uncle Jerry.

The quote you took from me was actually a response to the comment about Christians whining about intolerance and the "this is newsworthy" statement was regarding molestation by clergy, not this specific article. Sorry for any confusion.

2003-06-24 12:34:46 PM
On the men's dress code page: "Turtlenecks properly worn"? What's the incorrect way of wearing a turtleneck?

2003-06-24 12:34:46 PM
"Body piercing is not permitted. Earrings and plugs are permitted in ears only."

So my ears would be perfectly aaceptable? Cool :)... That being said, after they took one look at said ears, I think that they would revise that section.

2003-06-24 12:35:41 PM

No hats or do rags in buildings including church/convocation

2003-06-24 12:36:23 PM
Christians are so intolerant and full of hatred. I wish they'd all just die!

2003-06-24 12:36:53 PM
Oh well, to each his own. As long as they aren't hurting anyone else with their actions, let them do what they want. I feel sorry for any women who have to wear skirts in below freezing weather though.

2003-06-24 12:37:00 PM
Why do any of your care what they have to dress like?

If they dont'.. umm should you?</i?

I don't, but I think many people do because these people eventually get the stick out of their arsh for five minutes, have sex, put stick back in arsh and give birth to more crazzies.

That means there's more of them...

Thanks,

Taylor

But only after they have rejected their own set of beliefs and accepted mine as the one truth.

For those wondering, "What is appropriate attire for a male student?"

2003-06-24 12:37:51 PM
How many Liberty U male students are fapping to those scantily-clad maniquins?

2003-06-24 12:38:01 PM
They mandate the width of shoulder straps on their own students. They don't impose these rules upon you or your school. They think you wearing spaghetti straps is "dumb" and you think a minimum of 2 inches is "dumb". It's called different opinions and beliefs. If you think something should be changed so they cannot have a dress code mandating their shoulder strap width, then that is intolerant, because they are not limiting YOU unless you CHOOSE to go that school.

You know the real intolerant bastards? Those guys at my workplace called management that make me wear a shirt and tie! How repressive!

2003-06-24 12:38:27 PM
It amazing me that fundamentalist christians basically want to enshrine their belief system as public policy in this country and then get bent out of shape, cry intolerance and "let us practice our faith," when someone points out some of the rediculous things they do.

In Utah, the Mormons take it to an art form. Unfortunately it is becoming nationalized with the current administration and many state governments.

Here's a farking clue: No one gives a hoot in hades what you do in your fundy enclaved. Just keep it out of public policy and you will get much less grief.

I know that this is incapable of happening however.

If god had meant us to take showers, he would have given us upward facing armpits.

but then your arm would have to be further down on your abdomen and your arms normal postition would be up in the air "like you just don't care"

2003-06-24 12:38:56 PM
PS. All organised religion can suck my budding haemorrhoids.

Yes... all of it.

/still resents being force-fed christianism all through school.
