Love this band; they're a huge inspiration for other bands -what other bands you ask... nirvana.

Not that it validates them... just writing something other than the usual: "Rock out with your cock out".

Try to have a happy birthday, ya creatively miserable f*ck.

/thanks for sharing your misery with us all these years.

Love that song... Beatles melody and an AC/DC riff. Can't do wrong with that combination!

Great song from a great album. I got "11" on CD for $2 at a record store clearance sale, and it's one of the best purchases I ever made. This reminds me to go looking for their 2 CD Anthology set next.

good tune... but "behind the wall of sleep" and "blood and roses" are better.

Nothing like stacked Marshalls in a small club that says: "We came to RAWK."

Great band, great show. Wonder what happened to them.

FlashHarry: good tune... but "behind the wall of sleep" and "blood and roses" are better.

I like the bass riff from "Blood & Roses", but I think "Only A Memory" is one of their best.

/Like this one, too
//thanks, subby

as for recordings, their most recent recordings have consisted of cover albums (the Who's Tommy and Meet the Beatles [both in their entireties] as well as an album oddly consisting entirely of covers of early Beatles b-sides) and a Christmas album.

Saw them at UNH on that tour. Great show.

Good call on Blood & Roses, too. Always loved that one.

Pat DiNizio also does parties at his house, which are a blast.

Happy birthday DiNozzo!

Are they tired of having things blown to them?
2010-10-12 11:22:11 AM
Great solid non-nonsense rock.

Happy birthday you sad sorry son of a biatch!

Any band cool enough to be in 'Class of Nuke 'em High' is OK in my book.
2010-10-12 12:54:21 PM
One of the best underrated bands evah.

They were too earnest for their own good - not that there was anything wrong with that.
2010-10-12 12:57:34 PM
New Brunswick's own, baby.

Fans of HP Lovecraft, too.
2010-10-12 01:41:58 PM
They wrote that song for the movie Say Anything. They makers didn't use the song in the film. I forget why.

Put me down for "Behind a Wall of Sleep."

How farking fat does Pat intend on getting?

toddism: singer is approaching maximum density

Wow...he has gotten big.

I worked crew for them for a show in the early '90s. The only problem with Pat is that spits a lot when he sings. So you don't want to be in the front row, and you don't want to have to clean out his microphones....
2010-10-12 03:20:28 PM
Great music. I saw these guys in 1989 in Memphis. . . they were a great show.

House of Freaks opened up for them-an even more amazing band.
2010-10-12 04:15:28 PM
came in for the DiNozzo reference. leaving satisfied. (as satisfied as I can be having never having had sex with Ziva)

I'm a big fan of Blues Before and After, too.

Happy birthday, Smithereens Guy.

/Rickenbacker Solidarity - Right on!

I can't believe I'm the first person to mention "House we used to live in". I saw them in '91, great farking show.

It's a pity Pat's gained weight. Who knows what happened besides male menopause?

Favorite Smithereens tunes:

Only A Memory
Blood And Roses
House We Used To Live In
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

I saw the Smithereens at Music Midtown in Atlanta. It was fantastic.
