Bwah ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha hee hee ha ha ha! HA!

Holy fark! This new pope is becoming as quotable (and idiotic) as Joe Biden.

If the pope that backed Hitler and his genocidal ways was dis-affectionately called "Hitler's Pope," then what should we call this one?

2010-10-11 04:31:55 PM
Well, Mein Kampf was non-fiction, so this means...what, exactly?

The article isn't very informative.

Here's the speech translated from Italian courtesy of Google.

My attempt to summarize this guy:

Member of the Hitler Youth? Check.
Personally responsible for the cover-up and continuation of worldwide child rape? Check.
Thinks that the gods speak to him personally? Check.
Wears dresses and Dorthy's ruby slippers around town? Check.
Responsible for keeping AIDS alive via the teachings of ignorance? Check.
Personally leaked the plans for the death star? Check.

What a fracking loser.

Pope said that it is "the media's" increasing reliance on images.

Pope Tip: Go into the Sistine Chapel and look UP, tell me what it is that you see. Under the patronage of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo painted 12,000 square feet of IMAGES on the chapel ceiling between 1508 and 1512 all without the help of the internet or media.

Aside from the spelling mistake, he has a point. Some people care more about their Farmville than their children or pets.

To be fair, Farmville is a lot less disappointing than the children and pets of most Farkers...

While I don't agree that all new tech is bad, I do think that it can create a certain level of apathy due to inherent anonymity. Sort of along the lines of "The internet is so big I couldn't possibly get caught - so let's see what I can get away with."

Cyber-bullying is a case in point. Teenagers can be cruel under *normal* circumstances where they are liable to have consequences for their actions. Give them an anonymous forum on which to harrass and you have a perfect storm of unchecked cruel behavior.

Is there a solution? I don't know. I *do* know that technological regression won't solve things, nor will Big Brother type behavior.

Is this really the FIRST time you've ever seen Phoebe?

He's right.
It hurts to say that because I just told my archbishop that he and the Catholic church can go autofornicate for sending me a disk saying I should discriminate against homosexuals.
Still, he's right.
Many people who can't distinguish between "reality" TV programming and reality and consequently emulate the asinine, boorish, and selfish behavior they see on these shows.

genner: brainiac-dumdum: Kirk's_Toupee: Atheism: The complete lack of belief and/or the belief that no-one created the universe. It has always been here.

if god can exist w/out being created, why can't the universe?

either way there's an uncaused cause.

Yup and either way it's a belief based on faith.

Now that I'm well past it, the catlic church, that is, I'll think back to the times when as a little kid, I'd be all alone in the confessional box with who knows what was lurking on the other side of the mesh. Thankfully, gratefully, luckily, I dodged the hell that befell so many other little kids in those places.

This dick was ordained in 1951.

He's seen it all, and if not quite done it all, himself, him and his ilk have, and are likely shielding still, plenty who have.

Yet, here's this prick pontificating like anything that comes out of either side of his mouth should be paid any heed by anybody, in what is it, 2010?

when the Technological Singularity happens and we all become free from our primative biological shells, the Church (and other bio-conservatives) are going to have a lot of problems adjusting to the new reality.

I don't have a macro, but hopefully this will suffice.

Agnosticism

The belief that whatever the true origins of life are, they are too complex for human minds at worst, and completely ambiguous at best. But that's okay, because it won't make the laundry fold itself or give me a week's paid vacation.

See, the problem is, with advances in technology, people will start expecting the Spanish Inquisition.

And we just can't have that.
