And yes, this was a snarky headline, but it makes a good point...

NASCAR needs to think about either running Saturday night races, or starting them at 12:30 ET or after 4 pm ET (for west coast) for the chase races during football season.

They're getting raped in the ratings, and one of the major reasons is that by the time they start the race at 1:20 for east coast races, the early NFL games are already at the point that someone is in the redzone.

With a west coast race like California, they're starting the race in the fourth quarter of NFL games. That's ratings suicide... especially on a day like today, when an undefeated team is playing early, and the NFL's Earnhardt Jr. (the Cowboys) are in the late game.

With a 12:30 broadcast time, the race would be going by kickoff time. And, California isn't a problem next year, since this is the final year Yawntana has two races.

I haven't watched the chiefs for a couple of years now. I tried to watch a game last year, but only made it through about ten minutes before changing the channel. It was too much like watching a high school football game.

this year I've watched them a little. They've won their first 3 games, played better than they have in a long time. so I'm going to watch.

Then, just like what always happens, once I start watching and get involved, they're going to start sucking and making BS rookie mistakes. I'll get angry and not watch again for several more years.

That's Fontucky, Subby

Lots of stupid going on here not even counting the Yawntana AWing. DVR the race.

Late games today are Saints/Cards, Titans/Cowboys and Chargers/Raiders so you can start watching the race once the early games wrap up. Fast forwarding through the commercials cuts viewing time down to about 45 minutes for the 3 hour race so you have time for dinner and a nap before the Igles/9ers.

From what I remember, Fontana has just three type of businesses: Quarrys, junkyards and racetracks.

I actually get to watch the race with you guys today... maybe. The wife is at work, but gets off at 3 PM. Then she wants to go to the lake with our daughter for a bit. After that... not sure.

But here's the checklist once again:

-Make sure all the pacedogs are fed and watered and ready to go for this late start
-Alert TKat to have the idol powered up early so that it reaches full power by the time the race begins
-And again, if anybody is going to be at the track, sabotage the #48 car!
--But failing that, bribe a start-and-park driver to just ram him!

I'll go one further and suggest they shorten the season to end in early September. Barring that, yes, Saturday night races would be smart, but no one's accused France of being smart.

I always thought that the reason Saturday night races weren't run was due to the local/small tracks who do all their events on that night. Something about competition or whatever. I could be wrong though.

You are correct sir.

Actually the reason NASCAR doesn't do that is it's original fanbase (ie Southerners) dont give a flying fark about the NFL - you do not however compete with college football in the south. Any other questions?

Yeah, but they've kind of pissed away most of the original fanbase by this point. So, Saturday night during football season would be worth a try.

Or, even better, vegaswench's idea of ending the season after Richmond.

In the south Saturdays are for football, Sundays are for racing

Don't be so sure. I drink with the rednecks that biatch about the state of the sport all the time and say endlessly how it's not like the old days. But every farking one of them knows Biffle won the last race. It's still at It's core a southern thing. You Yankees are just learning to embrace your inner redneck.

Fun fact: Austin Collie has only made 1 catch, and yet only has 3 less fantasy points than Peyton Manning.

"Yankees"?

Sir, you insult me.

I know Virginia is the borderline, but I was watching NASCAR when the #3 was yellow and blue, and Richard Petty was slightly competitive!

I remember the greatest season! And the destruction of the following year!

I remember when "Lake Speed" wasn't just how fast you were going on the water, and "Dick Trickle" wasn't just what happened when you were half asleep, trying to take a piss in the middle of the night!

But, I still say that a lot of the older fans were turned away since 2004, and all that's really left is the ones that started watching in 2001-2005. Sure, the redneck base may know who won last week's race, but that's not from watching it.

I read that Childress will be on the 31's pit box because crew chief Todd Berrier has been taken to hospital for light-headedness?

No DJ, it HAS to be intentional! You have to wreck the #48, even if you have to bribe somebody else to do it for you! And then when he gets out of his car, wreck him again!

2010-10-10 03:15:44 PM
Oh, speaking of fantasy football, I had both Mark Clayton and Jermichael Finley start, and wouldn't you know it, they BOTH got injured at the EXACT SAME TIME! Add to it that Schaub is kneeling before the wrong Manning, and its looking craptacular!

Haven't seen anything on Jayski about it yet.

They are reporting on Shane Hmiel, who is in critical condition with head injuries after crqashing in a USAC race.

And a happy birthday to the most overrated driver in NASCAR history.

2010-10-10 03:19:20 PM
They just talked about it on air. He's on his way back to the track. But still, the green hasn't even flown and the 31 is having bad luck.

Forgive me for saying this, but I thought he was already dead due to self-inflicted wounds. Or is that somebody else I'm thinking of.

Hope Shane recovers though.

I kinda wished today's race starter would've dropped an ice pick on the #48 as it passed by the flagstand.

I think it was another Busch Grand National driver with drug problems who committed suicide. Can't remember his name, though.

And, while typing, I just recalled and confirmed with wiki, it was Kevin Grubb who you were thinking of.

Is Harvick just farking around with Mears? He just bump drafted him past Newman as opposed to passing him.

Well, it's liable to fark with anyone's head if they see Casey Mears passing them.

That might be some long term psychological damage.

Sadler is going to work for Kevin Harvick Inc. next year.

What better way to get in good with the boss?

Montoya is farked. Now there are only 3-4 cars that can stop the 48. We'll get a good feel for it when he passes the 1 and the 17. How much distance he puts on em will determine his chances.

Unless he blows the engine with that hot dog wrapper. (NASCAR will find debris before that happens.)

OK the "NASCAR is trying to make Jimmie champion again" meme is retarded. Jimmie wins alot because, while he lacks any discernible personality, he does have driving talent and he is on a team with the finest equipment money can buy.

Jimmie winning another championship is about the last thing NASCAR wants. It's droning down ratings. If anything I'd expect NASCAR to be cheating to tank Jimmies chances but HMS is a little too big to the sport for them to do that

I always chuckle at the "NASCAR is scripted" crowd. First of all to stage these things scripted live in front of the crowds they bring would be impossible, and secondly they need better writers if it's true. You make the most popular driver in the sport irrelevant and hardly use him? No way any competent writer would put Jr out to pasture for 2 whole seasons
