I thought this thread would be about Ondrej Pavelec collapsing on the ice tonight

Then after a few seconds I clued in.

Hope he's ok.

Nobody knows what happened yet, Thrasher haven't released anything other than the fact that Pavelec was taken to the hospital.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Devils seem to have forgotten how to play D.

Also, the Sens are sucking serious wind right now.

Shots are still 29-12 for the Sabres. Leclaire is standing on his head.

And Evander Kane scores on a Penalty Shot. Mike Green put his hand on the puck in the crease.

SI and ESPN don't seem to think so, but regardless, I'll rephrase: The Red Wings look good so far.

Datsyuk gets the Gordie Howe Hat Trick tonight.

drkdstryer: That wouldn't happen with a heart attack, right?

Heart attacks usually don't stop your heart. They certainly can, but the vast majority just cause damage to the heart tissue.

For the first of many times this season, I'd like to blame 2009 Norris Trophy candidate Mike Green for the Caps (currently) losing the game.

No heart attack. Apparently Pavelec is awake and alert.

Who knows, may have just had low blood sugar, or maybe Ovechkin farted in front of his net after a couple dozen bowls of borscht.

For anyone watching the Wings/Ducks game; box score said something about Holmstrom getting a game misconduct in the 2nd period, but apparently he's still playing. Please enlighten me.

Heh... who knows. I think it officially disqualifies you from winning the Lady Byng, so maybe Datsyuk will rack up a few more. I doubt he'd ever touch Shanahan's record, though.

At least he stood his own, giving about as much as he got tonight, against one of the Duck's tough guys.

I'm not sure if the game is an indication of how far the Ducks have fallen, or how scary the Wings will be to their opponents this year - or both. They looked great tonight, though Hudler and Stewart both looked a little bit lost tonight. Howard got his shutout, and Modano showed why he's still on the ice.

After tonight Pavs is a Lady no longer, for this year anyways. He gave as good as he got and good for him but I hope he keeps his gloves on from here on out.

I'm not against a good fight but something needs done when a team that's outplayed just goons it up like the Ducks did tonight.

Killer Cars: switch_cab5: You won't lose a fight going at it like that but you won't win it

True, but damn near everyone tries just that against Boog just to not their ass kicked and usually fail. Mac actually kept him from really getting loose and wailing away, and maybe this time he'll have the confidence to try and land more shots. Another matchup would be interesting.

What we can all agree, is that Mac is helluva lot better than that dorkass Stortini. I don't like The Oil anyway, but dear God he's an embarrassment.

Just watch the video.

I am going to go ahead and predict the Wings for the cup. They might as well run the parade route all the way to Toronto so their planned route won't go to waste again.

the rest of the season is a formality, the playoff are just to award the Conn Smythe

timujin: Are the fights just accepted or a recognized part of the game?

Hockey fights are somewhat of a relic in today's NHL. It used to a more physical game in the sense that you could interfere with the skill players a lot more. Then you always have goons, who basically go out and attack the other teams talent.

So hockey teams always had an enforcer, and it was generally agreed upon that some guys would always fight other guys. Now it seems like less teams have guys that are not talented players, and can only throw the fists.

Didn't see it, but maybe it was just a 10 minute misconduct. You can't play after a game misconduct obviously.

Fighting has a place in hockey because it is easy to target the other teams talent, or slash at a goalie. Do you know how bad it hurts to get clobbered in the hand with a stick? Everyone who has ever played a goalie competitively will tell you about players that just smash hands.

On the other hand the fighting has been reduced significantly. Also, take a look at the NFL. I don't think I've seen a Steelers game all year where there wasn't a scuffle.
