you mean "fake emotion" upon return

2001-10-13 03:27:37 PM
I thought Letterman's was better.

2001-10-13 03:29:24 PM
I remember seeing this on TV.

2001-10-13 03:29:34 PM
"...they live in chaos, and chaos can't survive."

Great line.

Ease up on the guy. Anyone who was there came away affected. If you are that jaded already, then maybe you need to re-evaluate a bit. Or maybe grab a bucket and shovel and help dig out body parts.

This hurt everyone in this country, "celebs and quasi celebs" included.

2001-10-13 03:39:36 PM
Amen, peeler.

2001-10-13 03:41:48 PM
I say BRAVO, Jon. Bravo.

2001-10-13 03:43:18 PM
This s THE MOST powerful speech ive seen about the issue. The parts about Maritn Luther King and The Statue of Liberty are really touching...

All the people who are bashing this guy, do you live in new york, do you look out at it every day untill then? if you dont, shut up. If you do, and your saying this, you need grief management

I frequent an apartment complex where a local TV news reporter lives.I talk to him in passing now and then. During the crisis, he was sent to New York. I saw him last week. He is visibly changed. Like he just came from a funeral.

I called out to him as was walking to work and asked him what it was like up close. He walked over maybe 15 feet, and with tears in his eyes just said, "You don't know. You'll never know."

Here in St.Louis, I imagine people are getting over this whole thing a lot faster than they are at ground zero.

FYI

Jon Stewart Rules.
Yes, I too am getting wary of the frequent sob sessions, but hey, if you don't like it, turn off your tv and radio, stop d/l'ing 10meg video clips and go back to playing Quake III Arena or whatnot.
Also, I agree w/ peeler, this was one of the best speeches on the subject, and also, Jon Stewart has a certain group of viewers that few other show hosts can reach, and I really think he did a good job.
That be said,
boobies rule.

"All the people who are bashing this guy, do you live in new york, do you look out at it every day untill then? if you dont, shut up. If you do, and your saying this, you need grief management"

I don't live in the city, but I have friends in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, including two that have a place they don't want to stay at in 88 Greenwich Street - about three blocks away from the WTC. Every time I cross the Whitestone or the Tri-borough I look downtown to see the gap that I wish wasn't there. I went down to ground zero last Sunday, and it's awful. It stinks, it's a mess, everything is closed up, and the dust is everywhere. Down on Greenwich Street there were charred scraps of paper laying everywhere. A couple days later in Astoria the wind was blowing north and I could smell it all the way up there. Every time I see it, smell it, think about it, it makes my heart ache.
But I still think Jon Stewart sucks. Sorry.

2001-10-13 04:03:43 PM
I did notice however, that it took him all of 1:30 to take a veiled jab at George W.Bush. Not that it was unexpected though.

2001-10-13 04:11:10 PM
thanx for that clearing up bobo I have always thought Jon was funny when he wasn't talking about politics (but thats with a lot of ppl when I rep. in a mostly dem. comedy scene)

2001-10-13 04:12:41 PM
Godam real player. Fark!

2001-10-13 04:14:06 PM
there a lot of people who didn't vote for dubya who are now firmly on his side. to those of you who judge Jon Stewart poorly based on his comedic/political leanings, I say you need to get the stick out of your ass and join the human race.

2001-10-13 04:18:23 PM
I'd say you're right, but so what? It was an honest reaction to an attack on our country. He's not good enough to fake that.

2001-10-13 04:22:16 PM
True, true. [sigh]
I guess I was harsh.

2001-10-13 04:39:48 PM
I'm stunned by Jon's amazing speech and disheartened by the reactions here.

But then, you know what? You have every right to be a completely self-centered wanna-be cynicist. You have every right to be a complete and total jerkoff. You have every right to express it. This is America, and you can be the biggest asshole that you want to be.

And I can hate you for it. That's *my* right.

2001-10-13 04:44:02 PM
Oh, I get it. Liberals aren't allowed to show feelings. Only nazi's and conservatives can emote in public and get away with it. And excuse me if I object to the OJ slander. Jon Strewart never killed anyone except a good laugh. And Clinton? He's become a barometer for every rightist crackpot with a grudge.

It seems to me that you are guilty of joining the cult of personality, of judging them based on their politics. I don't like dubya but I think he's done a good job in this crisis. Yeah, I'm to the liberal side of the spectrum but I don't think that disqualifies me for thinking that Jon Stewart deserves a break here.

2001-10-13 04:53:28 PM
All of you farkers can read Stark23x's comments again, because that's exactly what I was going to say.

Jon Stewart = Funniest man since Jesus did stand-up.

2001-10-13 05:05:24 PM
"And I can hate you for it. That's *my* right."

Then you're not much better than those you hate, Stark23x.
Let's all calm down a bit. I did. Feels better.

2001-10-13 05:22:29 PM
BoBo...

Why don't you drop that farking conservative versus liberal bullshiat. It doesn't farking matter any more. The only thing that matters now is us and them. Us being liberty loving Americans, them being the evil ass masters out there who hate us for having and wanting that liberty.

You need to get your damn head on straight and deal with what is important. And your inane babbling slandering anything that you perceive to be liberal is the most retarded vocal diarhea I have ever heard. And it should no longer have a context in our country till this shiat is over.

Shut the fark up!

2001-10-13 05:29:39 PM
How did you guys start psychobabbling about politics and Afghanistan in a JON STEWART thread?

I liked this monlogue, makes him seem like more of a real person. I'm glad he did it, and I commend him. That took guts.

2001-10-13 05:31:16 PM
which is all I have been trying to say...

2001-10-13 05:39:05 PM
This thread is typical of the bullshiat that has recently going on at Fark.

2001-10-13 05:39:29 PM
hey, bush cried on the news once too. Does that make him a terrorist loving, liberal jerk-off, too?

2001-10-13 05:43:02 PM
well, Macfrugal, he HAS been giving away a lot of money lately, you know money that we don't have. That kinda makes him look a bit liberal to me. AND he wants to let in a shiatload of Mexicans for free. Getting to look a lot like Clinton.

2001-10-13 05:50:41 PM
please, god, keep the farking politico-talk out of this thread.

2001-10-13 05:51:30 PM
Thank goodness Sgamer came here and edited the fark out of this thread.

2001-10-13 05:52:52 PM
Yeah, Drew. WTF?

2001-10-13 05:52:54 PM
don't thank me, thank Jeebus!

2001-10-13 05:53:00 PM
Ah, I'd been meaning to check for that video. That was the most heartfelt monologue I've seen on the whole situation. And the zen moment with the puppy at the end of the show was spectacular.

Jon Stewart rules.

2001-10-13 05:53:40 PM
What the fark is it with all the right-wing trolls
its like a farking hydra... you cut one head off (Jello-boy) and a shiat load more sprout up in his place.

but yeah Jon Stewart really showed some guts there... I have been getting tired of hearing about this tragedy over and over again in the media. Starting to reach that saturation point where I am becoming numb to it. But that actually made me stop and think for a minute, it was really moving.

2001-10-13 05:55:08 PM
I'm curious why some don't like talking politics on this thread? This is a political issue. And what do you mean Cosby about the "typical" bullshiat that has been going on at fark?

2001-10-13 05:55:11 PM
too many people think like siskel and ebert....

2001-10-13 05:55:23 PM
YEAH SGAMER
You the man!

2001-10-13 05:55:45 PM
Jebus Shaves!

2001-10-13 05:55:48 PM
Code's right. Stewart was from the heart.

2001-10-13 05:56:59 PM
its not politics, its fark.com

2001-10-13 05:57:09 PM
and they lived happily ever after (except for Rush)

2001-10-13 05:57:54 PM
Bobo555: You're an assclown, aren't you?

Everyone else: Wow, that was amazing. Its so rare for someone on TV to speak honestly, from the heart and thats what Jon did. It was very powerful and moving. On a related note, anyone know where one can find the David Letterman speech?

2001-10-13 05:58:17 PM
It's nice to see that Sgamer is enforcing the American ideal of censoring everything you don't like.

Sgamer- will you let politics be discussed anywhere or will you continue your Mussolini-esque reign of terror?

2001-10-13 05:59:52 PM
mussolini sounds a lot like tortelini, but i'm rather full after my burrito.

2001-10-13 05:59:59 PM
*thanks Jeebus*

2001-10-13 06:03:58 PM
Cheshire_cat_sf, apparently Bobo555 is synonomous with assclown.

2001-10-13 06:05:31 PM
No... I would say that Bobo was JelloBoy in disguise except he is not calling everybody fags.

2001-10-13 06:06:56 PM
Yeah, it's fark, and politics and religion drive most of the commentshiats. Take a look at the top threads.

Lay off the heavy-handed censorship.

WTF?

2001-10-13 06:06:56 PM
God I hope he does Bobo

IT'S NOT NEWS, IT'S FARK.COM

If you want neverending pointless political debate, go to slashdot or make a little AOL chat room for yourself.

For all you people that came here after 9/11. This site was not intended to be a news site, or a debate site. It's supposed to be funny. Put the humor back in the threads, or suffer the consequences.

That is all.

2001-10-13 06:07:23 PM
humor, um, okay.

Rush is deaf....hyuk.

2001-10-13 06:07:38 PM
Uh, since I know there are mods in here, could you please that first 13371355 post of mine up there, thank you.

2001-10-13 06:07:41 PM
Cosby: no, bobo555 defined what a real assclown is.
