Happy Caturday everyone!

Caturday "regular schedule": Caturday runs from sometime Thursday afternoon (for TotalFarkers), posts to Main at 8AM on Saturday morning, and runs until sometime very early on Monday morning. please do check it out on Sunday and Sunday night as well, as some of the best stuff, late answers to questions, and of course, some very good CADTM will show up later than the typical Saturday afternoon.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE BEEN LURKING AND NOT POSTING:

take the plunge! post some "blanks" of YOUR kitty and see how fun it is to see your kitty in lights and your family's kitty might get a fun or silly caption of his or her very own! a detailed "how to post pics on Caturday and on fark in general for dummies" page can be found here (new window). once you get the hang of it, posting pics is very easy, but it can seem daunting if you haven't ever done it before. take a look at that web page and hopefully it will make sense. there's even a bonus section that shows how easy it is to caption your own pics.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A NEW KITTY THAT NEEDS A NAME:

introduce your new charge(s)! perhaps we can have a naming "contest". post a pic of your kitty and let everyone make suggestions. some of the ones Caturday comes up with are hilarious and often very appropriate. my guy, "LittleOne", recently got his new long name "Jester Lord Fluffy Bottom" (partly mine and partly another lovely farker's - take credit you-know-who!).

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A KITTY WHO IS UNDER THE WEATHER:

please post details and pose questions. Caturday is a wonderful place to get help as well as have fun. many of us, having had lots of kitties and having taking care of their lovely and many, many lives and, unfortunately, injuries and illnesses, have become "kitty health resources". post the issues and we'll all see if we can help, and for myself, please feel free to email me (my address can be found in "how to post pics on Caturday and on fark in general for dummies" (new window) and is "things.i.do.to.my.cats (at) gmail.com").

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A KITTY TO THE RAINBOW BRIDGE:

for those who have recently lost a kitty, please do let us know. please show us your pics, tell us the story. sharing helps. a wise person once said "a joy shared is twice a joy, a pain shared is half a pain". tell us of the lovely times of days past when kitty was around. tell us of your heartbreak at losing kitty. it's safe around here; no one will judge. most all of us have been there and will sympathize.

FOR THOSE WHO THE REST OF US DON'T KNOW WELL YET:

there is a fun map that was started by KimJ that shows where various of us Caturdayians are around the globe. to see it and hopefully contribute, go to KimJ's Caturday map (new window)

FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO BE KEPT UP ON CATURDAY GOING'S ON:

if you would like to be kept up, just send your fark name and email address to CaturdayOnFark (at) googlegroups.com or go to http://groups.google.com/group/CaturdayOnFark and add your name to the infrequent email list. an email goes out once a week or so with the current Caturday thread and this or that other tidbit of info. please do be sure to include your fark handle.

spinach gunk, that first cat is my friend's cat, Percy!

Many of you know Percy from previous Caturdays but he (and I) haven't been around in a while. Well, I now have a new Percy picture that my friend would love captioned. As usual, the caption my friend likes best will win a month of TF. Thanks & happy Caturday!

Any New York Farkers (or Jersey for that matter) looking to adopt someone new for their home, meet Pandora:

farm5.static.flickr.com

She's 6 months old, female spayed front declaw. Her owner adopted her and her brother from a shelter and decided life was easier with just her brother (biatch!) She gets along with other cats AND dogs (previous home had both) is very mushy and needs a home. She has all her shots, is FIV/FeLV negative and is in perfect health! She's living me us at the animal hospital in Manhattan. EIP if you are interested!

I hate to start us off with a sad...but...

Sasha went to the Bridge Tuesday afternoon. He crashed over the weekend, then a visit to the vet on Monday told me things were grim. I set an appointment for a vet to come to the house Tuesday evening to help him to the Bridge, but he didn't want to wait. He left (mostly) peacefully in my arms.

He gave me 14 years of loves and snuggles, 5am howlings wakings for gooshy foods, rumble purrs, and an obsession with ice water. He never acted like a proper cat: he took to new places faster than I did (he lived in 2 countries, 2 states, and 10 homes), and let me take him to friends' houses for fun. Never minded the car so long as he wasn't in a carrier.

He was floppy. He could be walking or standing or sitting, and all I had to do is give him a little push, and he'd fall right over. Usually with a grunt of protest. He would cut you if you weren't careful. Somehow I never was able to teach him to play gently. He had the longest meows; they'd go on for 10 seconds or more. He had an amazing ability to open things: closet doors, dresser drawers, bathroom doors, cupboards. He had an affinity for pooping in the sink, and learned how to open the bathroom door to get to the sink when I was showering.

He had a white spot on one of his rear paws that made him look like a bunny. I loved that little white spot.

He used to put his face right up to mine - at 5am naturally - and paw at my nose to wake me up for noms. That's the weirdest part: I've not slept without interruption in 14 years. Going to sleep and waking up in the morning is bizarre since I am so used to being woken up a bunch of times in the night when Sasha wanted snuggles (or, more likely, food).

I'd give anything for an interrupted night of sleep. I am continually looking for him in the house, glancing at all his hiding and sleeping places as I go from room to room. So empty here.

Up to the end, I knew when he was not feeling well because all he wanted was to be close to me. He could hardly move, hardly lift his head, and I had a heating blanket under him and a heated blanket on top of him. But if he was more than 6 inches from me in the last couple days, he'd struggle to move closer to me. So I made sure he was right up next to me, and we got some good cuddles at the end. Whenever I left the room for more than a few minutes, Otto jumped up onto the bed to take over the watch. Otherwise, he sat on the other side of the room. Right before the end, about 20 minutes before he passed over, Otto came over and jumped up on the bed, watching. Witnessing.

I know it was time and I know he's no longer feeling crummy. I just miss him terribly. His rabbit-like soft fur, the warm rumble of his purr. The splay of his toes when I rubbed them. The hour-long meow. The nose deep down in the ice water glass, slurping vigorously. The whiskers ticking my face in the night. The contented sigh-purr in my arms while I browse Caturday.

Thank you dear heart, for your grace and your love, for your steadfastness and your snuggles. I'll miss you always.
Better days: I'd love captions. Any and all welcome.

He wasn't enormously masculine. Named Alexander (diminutive Sasha just like for AlexandRA), he liked to hide in the closet. We used to tell him to just come on out of the closet, that we'd love him any way he was. But he just couldn't seem to come out. :)

Thank you. The hugs both help and send me into sobs. Think I'll go hug Otto. He's never gotten so much attention in his life.
