I knew Spinal Tap had a cult following, but I never dreamed they'd grow to the point where they'd be classified as a bonafide religion!

Thank you. Came here to say this. "Druids" are entirely a creation of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the "Celts" they pretend to emulate were not in the British Isles until at least the Bronze age.

It's about time.

Even the Knights Templar were removed from banned status a while back because the European Union called it religious discrimiation.

The Knights are now selling Knighthoods and Sir/Lady titles for a small fee to celebrate. And I think you get a square-inch of land to lord over, too.

No, I'm simply wondering whether the usual suspects who rail against Christianity and Islam will show up and rail against druids too. I would assume they will, if their problem is against religion.

So I'll wait to see how many "TAX THE CHURCHES" posts get made.

So, yes a persecution complex then.

That and this has little to do with the original druids, due them having only an oral tradition and Vespasian putting every last one of them to the sword when they took Anglesey.

Any organised religion out there, imho, should be taxed. The vast majority of neo-pagans are about as organised as a collection of cats. You have a few official pagan churches with a few regular attendees, but other than the absence of pews and more people wearing some kind of robe, you would have a great deal of trouble differentiating their services from any standard UCC or Anglican Sunday service, right down to the couple with the guitar playing one or another version of "Kumbyya" and "I'd like everyone to make any newcomers feel welcome, Dave brought in some carrot cake and Marjorie will have some coffee and herbal tea ready after the service."

I'd rather call it what it is. It is a symptom of paranoia.

I have no real problem with religion, per se, but I firmly believe that they shouldn't be tax free. WAY too much abuse of that by charlatans pretending to be "Men of God".

You know, I take that back. They are "men of god", but their god is money.

/Don't get me started on "charities", either.

The religion that brought you Stonehenge is now tax exempt --

-- but only because the government have not yet found an effective means to collect back VAT from stone age zombies.

alt-explode: Stonehenge? Where the demons dwell?

I hope I'm not the only one who was watching the Amazing Race last Tuesday. Did anyone catch the one tattooed-up girl saying "I'd never heard of Stone Henge before today. And it's just a bunch of rocks?"

How the hell does a person get to be to at least their mid-20s and NOT hear of Stone Henge?

Of course, later on Phil asked the girl if she knew what country she was in, and she responded "London," so she's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

It's lyrics from a John Lennon song, "Mind Games"

I'm also not sure why it was a response to an Eddie Izzard quote.

/I choose cake. Thanks for asking.

Druidry is an ancient pagan tradition that dates back thousands of years in Britain.

And people say government is slow.
