It's awfully unclear but it sounds like it's a dummy round and harmless.

I'll take it.

We have a French 75 training projectile back home being used as a doorstop. I've always wanted one for myself.

A non-fired French round? I've got a French rifle... Never fired and only dropped once.

This is the one that gets greenlit? lame. nothing about it being obviously marked inert, nothing about evacuation orders for whole blocks surrounding the place....

The Deseret Industries thrift store on 158 E. Pages Lane was briefly evacuated Friday afternoon after a customer tried to buy a military ordnance that had been donated.

This is just dumb reporting. If it had been detonated, why worry?

The fail is strong with this one.

I used to find all sorts of things at the Deseret Industries all over Salt Lake. (Motoguzzi on a trailer, Pro Beta Cam, Vespa...only bought the video camera.)

/would have loved an INERT arti round.

I have one of those on top of my computer right now,

I'm a regular over at SilencerTalk.com and plenty of people over there own pretty big stuff. Like a 75mm M20 Recoiless Rifle.

t1.gstatic.com

As others have said, 99.9999999% chance the item in question was an inert practice round for a M40 106 Recoiless Rifle. Perfectly legal to own and the biggest danger it would pose is if you dropped it on your foot.

The inability to understand the meaning of DRILL INERT is easily explained by the fact that both thrift stores and police departments frequently employ the mentally disabled.

I have a bunch of old American, British, French, German and a few Japanese ones collected over the years by people on campaign. Helps when you have grandparents who were on the ammo trains in WW1 and so on. They are kind of neat.

Strangely the article doesn't mention this one bit although the cameraman did focus on it. I guess he knew what it meant but the reporter didn't.

I suspect the regular cops took one look and evacuated and the bomb guys realized it at once.

No up side to that. If they're wrong (even if that is a very remote possibility), someone might get killed and worse, they might get sued. Plus, they don't get to bring out the bomb squad to blow some shiat up.

Let's see what Google says...

"Types of ammunition included HEAT, High Explosive Plastic-Tracer (HEP-T), canister, High Explosive Anti Personnel, and the M368 dummy round which could not be fired and was used for crew drill."

Apparently, Google isn't their friend. In fact, I'm pretty sure Google hates them about now. I think Google farked their sisters.
