How the hell can someone not see the train? Must have been blind drunk.

But, yeah, Cape Breton makes sense.

I don't know how they do it, but there have been plenty of deaths and such in Calgary relating to "distracted walking" where people were reportedly gabbing on their cell phone, too self absorbed to notice the lights and bells sounding at a LRT crosswalk

Drinking had to be involved.

Maybe drugs.

When the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway train stopped, the man stood up and walked home. His house is about 100 metres from the crossing, police estimated.

Quick, someone call M. Knight Shamalama or whatever his name is and tell him real life is ripping off his movies.

Vorpal: Not an isolated incident (new window)

It was kinda hard to figure out what people said, but I clearly heard "stupid" and only at the end of the video did someone ask "is he hurt?" Unbelievably stupid. Especially since the train was slowing down to reach the station.

It's not an isolated incident at all. My father was a locomotive engineer, and his engine had been hit by cars several times.

I was involved in the investigation of a suicide a few years back when a guy ran in front of a train. The train was actually dented as a result.

/Not cool - the train driver was traumatised.

I noticed that the sides of most of the cars on freight trains have huge panels of reflective tape. You gotta guess that drivers happily drive through the flashing lights and lowered gates right into trains.

No where in that article does it say the the train is ok.

Do you know something we don't subby?
So is it? I'd the train ok? You can tell us. We can take it.

You got it, Ace. Actually, a long train of coal cars (with no reflectives) is kinda hard to see when a driver is stupid, and they drive around the gates.

In his defence, maybe the sound of the enormous diesel locomotive was drowned out by the loud warning bells they have at those level crossings...

This is the same province where police caught a stabbing suspect, but don't have a victim (new window).

Like a kid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas
He was dancing with a train

They were all in love with dyin'
They were drinking from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche

Shortly after 9/11, some guy committed suicide by stepping in front of a southbound Amtrak doing about 110. Except for his head and his left shoulder/arm which survived intact, it looked like someone threw 150 pounds of hamburger at this train. Not what one wants to see so soon after spending time at ground zero.
