This letter brought to you by Powdermilk Biscuits and ketchup. Ketchup has natural mellowing agents that should have calmed this twunty congressional attention whore down years ago. Only commies don't eat ketchup. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

To the rest of us she's kind of amusing:

Keillor took time out from The 2-Hour Lutheran Joke Fest to tell us what we already knew. I was, however, surprised at the tone of the letter. Apparently he can use decisive language and the active voice.

Either way, I suspect the idiots in the St. Cloud area will re-elect her.

UNC_Samurai: Either way, I suspect the idiots in the St. Cloud area will re-elect her.

Why is this? Is there something in the water that makes them group stupid? Is her opponent that inept?

I think she, Palin, O'Connell, Malkin, and Coulter should have a crazy-off. Five enter, only one returns. Do it PPV and they'd make millions.

Why is this ironic?

IIRC he has a funny name, so people won't vote for him. So yes, they're that stupid.

The Elk River/St Cloud area is filled with rednecks, big, loud pickup trucks and cowboy (wannabes), so it's really no surprise.

Its Autumn in Lake Wobegon and all the leaves are turning colors....beautiful colors that remind you of the time when you were a young man and running, just running through the leaves, fresh fall leaves, crisp and crunching, crunching under your feet...

Over at the Chatterbox Cafe, all the firemen are talking about this year's big Harvest Festival bonfire and how Mr. Gustaffsson is going to make everyone try his new flavor of sasparilla creme soda that he made in his basement, before his wife ran off with the milkman to Duluth.

Seriously? Bachmann is the evidence that Minnesota is farked up? Look at their recent electoral history. Jesse "The Body" Ventura lead the way for professional wrestler turned politicians. Amy Klobuchar is a dunce who can't wipe the deer-in-headlights, 'I'm-terrified-and-I-don't-belong-but-maybe-if-I-smile-really-awkwardly-and-pret end-people-won't-notice-me' look off her face. And then they elected Senator Stuart Smalley? How is Bachmann THE embarrassment of Minnesota? Seems to me she fits right in...

Nitpick here, but Ventura is minigun-guy from Predator before pro wrestler.

I react to Keillor's monologues the way Alex in Clockwork Orange did to Beethoven after undergoing the Ludovico treatment.

Really they're just godawful tripe.

Brilliant parody or actual Garrison Keillor? I can't tell.

Man, how much of a d-bag do you have to be for Garrison Keillor to call you an a-hole?

That's like having Mr. Rogers threaten to dickslap you if you don't quit running your cock-gobbler.

Honestly, I've gotta give Uncle Grandpa a little credit for this. Dude's made soft-spoken feel-good quasi-nostalgia his stock and trade for decades. So in a state where passive-aggressive keeping-up of appearances is an unwritten state law, for him to come out and rock his little fishing boat even a LITTLE is relatively huge.

I LIVE in Minnesota, for chrissakes. If you picked out a random person's house, and pooped on their porch every night for a week without explanation? By Thursday at the latest, there'd be a roll of Charmin and a magazine left on the mat for you by sundown.

2010-10-01 11:27:16 AM
To be fair to Jesse, he did a pretty good turn as governor. For one thing, he made the state congress obey the state constitution and return budget surpluses to the people. I bought a Discman.

/CSB
//voted for Coleman for governor
///would've voted for Smalley if I still lived there

Can you imagine what it would be like to have to run against Michele Bachmann? Think of how utterly impossible it would be to get face time against something so ferociously crazy. Really sucks all the air out of the room.

Get your ass to Lake Wobegon and repent.

I don't dig PHC, but Keillor is a great storyteller. News from Lake Wobegon told by anyone else wouldn't be nearly as entertaining.

What is it with Minnesota anyway?

Her opponent if I recall is a state congressman who is completely forgettable. Someone else on the site admonished me for not even knowing her name (Tarryl Clark!) and I sent an email to her campaign which was more or less unfocused rage on how they are throwing away the easiest election in the history of the world.

Ventura was useful to the state because he was the classic example of someone with enough money to get in the spotlight and who was removed from the typical partisan fighting. A refreshing change of pace, and he at least spoke his mind and didn't hide behind platitudes and positioning. He got a lot of flak for it but I would much prefer a dozen Venturas to a single Coleman. Useless POS that he was.

I voted for 'Stuart Smalley' and wouldn't you know he's one of the most credible and respectful senators in this divisive political climate. Say what you will about the man's past but he is certainly no embarassment to the senate now.

Ironic? The tag can't even be explained by the Alanis Morissette definition of ironic.

Rapmaster2000: I don't dig PHC, but Keillor is a great storyteller. News from Lake Wobegon told by anyone else wouldn't be nearly as entertaining.

The assumption being that it's entertaining now.

I've listened to PHC before, mainly when I was in the car and there was nothing else on, and quite frankly, it sucks. The music is good, as long as Keillor isn't singing, but that's the only real bright spot in a rather dreary and unfunny show. I call it LuLuLu: It's about Lutherans, Lutefisk, and something else that may or may not begin with 'Lu', or have 'lu' in the words somewhere.

Now I end up listening to Radio Timtron Worldwide instead. Anyone who drives around in a cadaverlac and lives in a pus bus is guaranteed to be hilarious.

Not entirely fair. Stearns County (where St. Cloud is) went for Tinklenberg, her opponent, by several percentage points.

She won by several points in Anoka county. Ultra-beige burbs, where the pants-pissing residents won't let little Ashleigh and Hunter do anything in downtown St. Paul. "It's just so dangerous, you know". That's the heart of Bachmann country.

I'd like to add that, at the beginning of the 2008 election cycle, I mistakenly believed that El Tinklenberg was a professional wrestler.

Wasn't Ventura's biggest failure as a politician saying that St Paul's streets were designed by a drunken Irishman (pretty much true)?
