I'm being serious, Dan Webster is part of that extreme version of Christian fundamentalism that has more in common with the Taliban than it does with mainstream America or even with general conservative American Christianity. He's a Bill Gothardite, his family is involved with Bill Gothard's homeschooling program, Advanced Training Institute (ATI), and to be a part of that, you aren't allowed to own a TV, women are discouraged from wearing pants for the most part, college is discouraged, it's a whole oppressive, isolationist world. It's also pretty much where the stereotype of homeschoolers wearing denim jumpers originated, because the denim jumper is about the only thing that meets their standards of modesty for women and holds up to everyday wear.

In other words, while Grayson may have been exaggerating, it's not all that far from the reality. I don't know about Webster's particular theological bent, but if he's a theonomist, Grayson might not have been exaggerating much at all, considering that theonomists are into the idea of the government executing adulterers and homosexuals.

That is also why the comparison is particularly (English, motherfarker, do you speak it?) apt. Daniel Webster holds to about 50% of that shiat without exaggerating his positions at all. Early religious marriage, women not being allowed to work or become educated outside of religious schools, forced dress codes, expanded death penalty for disobeying moral laws...
