It's not farked, the site loads OK, and quickly enough. It's just a collection of banner and side-ads, and no actual story. Weird!

In the first place, why would anyone pay to call a talking clock.

We have free ones here in the USA. They are sponsored by commercial entities. Ours in Minnesota is 763-512-5111 it is sponsored by a local television channel and the electric utility.

They not only give you the time, but also the temperature, then a brief advert, then the 5 day weather forecast.

Kudos for capitalism! Boo on your UK socialism.

You can also get your own talking clock for free.

Deanage:- How is paying for a service socialism?

I always thought the UK speaking clock was free. It used to be sponsored: "At the third stroke, the time sponsored by Accurist will be..."

I guess things have changed since I lived there (~2 years ago).

The service may be free but aren't calls charged per min. over there? (I read somewhere that's why "free" internet works over there but never worked here)

Voice calls tend to be charged by the minute but internet calls don't have to be.

I pay 10 ($15) a month for unlimited dial-up.

Jay_veeYou won't find a Scot who doesn't know what an MP or BT is.

I call bullsh*t. I JUST got off the phone with Scott and he has NO IDEA what all that crap means.

What's the problem w\ the abreviations? you yanks don't know what an MP is? The LOCAL paper should have listed a glossary for the UK-deprived I guess...

Moderately amusing, but not as funny as the electronic robot voice in my community that used to call people in the middle of the night and tell them their books were overdue. Apparently a number of old folks had the bejeezus scared out of them by the disembodied voice telling them at 3am that their books needed to be returned ASAP. Now that's an example of technology run amok.

well BT may be Bastard Telecom, but in this area the only other option is NTL and they have been nothing but utter sheits to us. Also in my job as a technie i have seen various electonic pieces of equipment go bananas at the slightest thing. Its entirly possible the box did it unprovoked and untill someone checks out the box settings noone will know

Jay_vee:I don't see what everyone's problem is... I am from New Jersey, and I didn't have any trouble with "BT" "MP," etc. Some farkers are so damned uncultured.

2003-06-19 03:34:37 PM
Yeah.
BT = Building Trades
MP = Military Police

Easy.

Ant, Serendipity, CharmerUnderMe, Batmn- That was the first thought on my mind too! (Yeah, no points for originality, but still...) I've read those books too many times.
