I didn't know Drew was a smoker.

2010-09-24 11:28:03 AM
yeah, but he WAS on for 124 years.

2010-09-24 11:29:26 AM
That's not much whiskey over a lifetime.
And a 40 pack-year history is significant, but not at all crazy.

I hope they get a sample of his DNA to figure out how he managed to survive so long.

I don't believe anything from The Sun. Maybe if it's confirmed by The Weekly World News.

Booh Ya!

I'm giving up my eCig and going back to the real thing!

Yeah, but if he hadn't drank and smoked, he would have lived to be 200.

What?

Old soldier Arthur - who survived being blown up by a grenade in the Second World War - claims the key to his longevity is doing what everyone tells him not to.

Interesting theory. I'd have advise against being blown up by anything at all if you want to live very long, in spite of this anecdotal evidence. Take some shrapnel if you wish, or go for some mild shell-shock. Sub-lethal instances of actually blowing up are quite rare and invariably messy.

Who'd want to live to 200? by that point it's highly likely your sphincter would no longer work, having been pooped out by 125.
Not to mention the fact that at 200 no amount of cialis would do you any good, if you even remembered that you had a penis.
That isn't even mentioning finding a partner who'd want to do a 200 yo.
Which is an interesting question, given the amount of sicko's there are out there.
Who wants to test this with an add to CL?

Damn, all I need to hear now is that he worked in an asbestos factory 14 hours a day while applying radium to watches on his lunch break for ten years.

I know a 56 year old guy who has been a heavy crack smoker for the past 20+ years, and freebasing before crack became the in thing. He is also just about obese, with a huge gut. Looks 10 years younger than he is. I don't know how to explain it.

Also, at some point even without any issues (Alzheimer's, dementia, etc) the brain runs out of space.

/At least I think I read this somewhere.

My granddad is 90 and still smokes about a half pack a day, he has been smoking since he was like 14. He gave up the drink years ago, however. The doctors at the VA say he has the lung capacity of a 40 year old. I think it would be worse for him if he quit now.

/he worked his ass off though for much of his life though. He owned and worked a tobacco farm as well as owning and working in the towns local slaughterhouse/butcher shop. I don't think you can be a desk jockey, your average farker or otherwise live a sedentary lifestyle and expect to smoke and drink and make it to 90 or 100.

Dr.Weir: I hate hearing shiat like this. I'm trying to quit smoking dammit.

I'm trying to cut back on smoking. I'm at about 3-4 cigs per day, which isn't a lot by most smokers' standards, but I know where it's headed.

Question to anyone who has at once NEEDED to smoke the second they get into their car and has quit - what was your method? Help is appreciated. I have an hour commute to and from work every single day. Can never last the whole hour without lighting at least one cigarette.

As much as I like stories like this, there are 3 patients in my waiting rooms right now anxiously awaiting the news that the doc will have to deliver- "You didn't quit smoking 6 months ago, so now I'm going to have to cut off one or both of your legs due to poor circulation. Hope those cigarettes were worth it."

Just another one of those things that makes me go hmmmm...

So I need to cut back to about two bottles of whisky a month?

I refuse, however, to take up smoking.

Meh, that's only a pack a day for 40 years. Not that much really.

Vesna Vulović survived a fall from over 33,000 feet without a parachute, and is still alive at the ripe old age of 60. If anyone thinks they can smoke and drink all they want, I suggest a new fast track to "longevity. . . by defying the odds"! Jump out of a farking plane without a parachute, and you too can be alive & kicking at 60. Seriously. Start a new fad. Get your chain-smoking drunk friends to jump out of planes without parachutes, and maybe we'll see fewer instances of subby's derp, because, well, you're all busy jumping out of planes in perfect health.

What if I light it first?

Anyone could drink 900 bottles of whiskey. That's really not that much. I've probably had close to that much alcohol in the past decade.

Yes, there will be a donation chamber at the wake next to the onion, bean, cabbage and beer table.
