But the suggestion to use safer plastic steins was vehemently rejected by organisers five years ago. Their argument? Drinking beer out of plastic cups is simply sacrilege and Bavarian beer requires a vessel befitting its status.

The line at the top is the 1L mark, filled to the top would be about 1.2L or so.

Based on my experience at Oktoberfest last year, I don't think this will be a problem. Unlike in the US, Jackasses were not tolerated at Oktoberfest. Most of the trouble was caused by drunk tourists who either couldn't handle their beer, or people who were looking to cause problems.

Our German hosts were kind and gracious, and I never had any kind of negative interaction.
