Republicans previously passed numerous bills during the Bush administration through reconciliation including the tax cuts in both 2001 and 2003.

TFA:
Then:
The GOP's two top budget guys, Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) in particular blasted Democrats. Gregg compared it to "running over the minority, putting them in cement and throwing them in the Chicago River."

Now:
"Yes, you can," Ryan said. "Reconciliation is the fastest best path to get there. We do want to use reconciliation, you ultimately have to use reconciliation to get there."
"Absolutely," added Gregg. "Reconciliation passes the Senate with 51 votes and it can adjust entitlement programs so they're affordable."

Like I've said, they're assholes.

I wonder what it would be like if our legislators actually cared about average Americans. I guess we'll never know.
BTW here's (new window) a link to a little story about health care in the so-called "third world."

Yes it was the changes to Medicare that don't kick in until 2014 that caused those 15000 people to lose their jobs.

You're still f*cking that particular chicken? NAME THE COMPANY. A quick googling the last time you dropped this particular fecal block o' text revealed that the #1 was doing fine, and that the largest one that's closed doors in the recent past did so in the face of fraud proceedings.

While the hypocrisy here is astounding, I really like Matt Yglesias' take on it (new window):

What [Republicans] do is they try to win legislative battles through all the tools at their disposal. And when in the majority they . . . do the same thing. They believe, strongly, that letting wealthy businessmen get what they want is good for America, and they go about doing that with seriousness of purpose. Many Democrats, by contrast, seem to believe that their highest responsibility is to make themselves look good, to preen for the cameras, or to maximize their own personal authority.

You should be at least as pissed at Democrats as you are at Republicans for this.

But it's posting private data! You might hack into the company personnel files, download all 15,000 people laid off, and figure out who amaranthe is! No can do, good buddy. You'll just have to trust an unsourced anecdote.

The budget reconcilation process is used for budget bills. Unless you a democrat and you can use it for health care.

Um, while the entire bill never could have been passed through reconciliation (since reconciliation is reserved for budget measures) and wasn't, didn't the Democrats use reconciliation to alter the Senate bill so it was more to the House's liking? Which means the headline should read more like:

Democrats: "We'll pass parts of ObamaCare through reconciliation." Republicans: "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE." Democrats: "Fine, we won't." *Democrats use reconciliation* Republicans: "But we'll use reconciliation to repeal ObamaCare" Democrats: "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE"

According to your profile, you worked for "the largest home health provider in the US". How is it that when I check Google for layoffs related to specific home health care companies and Medicare changes, nothing comes up? Surely, laying off 15k people (1/3 of their workforce according to your profile) would turn up in an article somewhere.
