"Right Wing News"? Sounds credible.

Also I love how his answer to #3 (the Tea Party driving away moderates) is not "No we aren't" but "Who needs moderates anyway?" And then he goes on to assume 'moderates' means moderate conservative candidates (which they might not need) instead of moderate conservative voters (which they do in fact need, in droves).

1. That it is an independent grass roots group, when it is fully created and funded by establishment Republicans.

GAT_00: 1. That it is an independent grass roots group, when it is fully created and funded by establishment Republicans.

That one actually gives me hope. It means they might be able to cut off funding and let the 'party' wither away.... unless of course it's become self-aware.

It has, look how Rove was beside himself when O'donnel won. They created something that is slipping from their control.

I'll give him number one. Tea Partiers are too f*cking stupid to have an agenda. All they do is regurgitate the inane platitudes they hear from Glenn Beck every day.

That The Tea Party *is* the establishment not-so strangely absent.

A teabagger lives around the corner from me. Full-size "Don't Tread on Me" flag next to ginormous American flag (both flown 24/7 w/spotlights on them), bumper stickers all over his Ford pick-up (Picture of Bush w/"Miss me yet?", "If you're not outraged then you don't know what's going on", "So...how's that 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?", "We can't ALL be Liberals--some of us have to work", "We came unarmed this time", "I can see November from my house" and a few others). He's also unemployed & collecting disability. Other than the fact that he's a moron (and this has little to do w/his being a Teabagger--my husband worked w/him years ago and can attest to his moron status), he's an affable guy and we'd chat a bit if he was outside while I walked my dog.

Until one day he saw that I had an Obama sticker on my car. Now he won't even give me the time of day and goes into his house if I come by.

What is it with right-wing sites and heavy moderation to eliminate discussion that goes against the party line? Does KOS or any other left-wing blog do something similar?

DKos will ban people for a lot of things. But generally, as long as you aren't being disruptive or obviously trolling, they're not (ahem) Nazis about it. I mean, if you show up and start threads about how awesome Mitch McConnell is, they'll probably ban you (and hopefully refer you to psychiatric care).

A lot of right-wing sites don't allow commenting to begin with.

I have an account there, even though I almost never post or comment (once per year would be an increase in activity). They progbbly ban people for being actively campaigning Republicans (why should they pay for the bandwidth to advertise the opposition?) but they do so without fanfare, and I know they don't ban conservatives "just because." The only times they make it a public spectacle was like the outing of the Rand Paul staffer (new window) who was trying to pretend to be a liberal and urge people not to support Rand Paul's opponent.

That was funny.

TFA:The Tea Partiers have a radical agenda! This oft made charge is extremely odd. After all, what are the issues that keep coming up over and over and over when you talk to Tea Partiers? They want to get spending under control, fear that the federal government is getting too big, and they want to stick to the Constitution.

Really? Can these tools actually imagine something that would be Unconstitutional? Are they trying to argue a strict-constructionist interpretation or do they really believe that the Democrat Congress and Obama are violating the constitution?

I think the name "Tea Party" is a clear warning that these people may need to cut back on huffing. No matter what they are taxed, they have representation.

To be fair, the AEI likes to keep that part sort of quiet, since they're seeing a return on the investment now...

I've actually seen some non-trolling conservatives who were genuinely interested in policy posting there with no ill repercussions. Which is a far cry from starting a diary about how Fartbama's death panels are going to prescribe Sharia stonings (which would be a typical day here on Fark).

To be fair, I really only participate in conversations on Fark. Maybe I just like the pain.

And yes, the Rand Paul Overzealous StafferTM thing was pretty awesome.

You get on any slanted site with forums and you have to do a lot of ignoring before you find the few people who can carry on a conversation about politics without name calling and general nastiness. Problem is those people don't always feel the need to talk about these things everyday or they tried and just gave up. I do enjoy reading exchanges between the extremes might finally give Hollywood some new ideas. The day the 'liberal trolls' invaded Teapartynation.com I learned all I needed to know about the Tea Party.

I love this gem:

These Tea Partiers are just Republicans who will fall in line once the GOP gets power again! Right now, the Tea Party movement is primarily benefiting the Republican Party. Yet, what you find if you talk to Tea Partiers is that if you're a Republican in D.C. and your name isn't Jim DeMint or Michele Bachmann, the Tea Party movement probably doesn't like you very much and they definitely don't trust you.

Oooooooooookayyyyyyyyyy

2010-09-22 04:00:08 PM
You see, "compromise" in Washington seems to consist of giving liberals almost everything they want as a starting point and then negotiating how far, if at all, to move from there.

/facepalm

There's a lot of good comedy in the piece. When they criticize Bush, for example, for not handling the "bad press" during Hurricane Katrina better. Because "bad press" was the major problem with the Bush administration's handling of that particular incident.

I want them to win. No, really, I do. Then we can get back to our true Constitutional roots -- no income tax, states' rights, voting only for the landed white gentry, slavery. You know, all the good stuff our forefathers traded away.

IIRC, the Tea Party folks started out as Ron Paul types: anti-war, anti-Fed, small-L libertarian*, yada yada.

However, it appears to me that it has been completely co-opted by the "28%" that were still giving Bush "approve" ratings by the end of his term, namely, the Creationist, Terry Schiavo-derping, mullet-wearing "Moran" sign types.

*Yes, I realize Ron Paul is anti-abortion and, I think, Creationist.

Well they were really great things. The libs stole all of them away under the noses of the good Real Americans. Things were better, way back when, in those times I saw on movies and read in fictional novels...

Given it was a list of things incorrectly reported on about the TEA party, my list was superior.

For instance, the establishment thinks TEA party members care about taxes when in fact, they could give a flying fark given they pay lower taxes now than people have for decades.
