They should have darkened it further...

OK, she seems nice enough, but anyone who saw her nervous, stumbling performance on SNL last season knows she will not be a big star.

/well, at least not in the figurative sense

Time to stop celebrating this girl. She is morbidly obese and will die young unless she stops eating so farking much. I love that society is supporting the CH type body but this chick is just plain unhealthy.

Marcus Aurelius: So is that more racist than sexist? Or just hopeless?

FTFA: "The Telegraph has also pointed out that while Elle chose to show full-length poses of Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, and Lauren Conrad, it opted to crop the photo of plus-size Sidibe to chest level."

A little of everything, with a little more emphasis on weightism. Ms. Sidibe has an Oscar nomination. Who are the other three chicks, when placed beside her? Ms. Sidibe has touched the highest honor there is in acting...................... but she's still treated like this. What's the point?

Here you go. ABC has a story with not just Sidibe's cover , but two of the three other chicks. Frankly, I think they are all suffering from some heinously bad photoshopping. Who are they selling the mags to, what people expect human beings to be cut pasted and shifted into unnaturalness? But Sidibe has had her skin lightened for the cover. The Elle editor who claimed innocence and anger towards those who called Elle out, is full of it.

What I don't get is why they didn't give full face shots to Conrad and Fox? That's another kind of sexism: Conrad and Fox don't sell with their heads (their talents), they sell with their bodies (or photoshopped re-imaginings of their bodies). The whole thing is bogus, for everyone.

wow. how light her skin got seems to be eclipsed by the sheer volume taken up on that cover just from her face.

She doesn't care. That's something many of us find liberating. She just doesn't give one farking thought to her appearance or how she is viewed by those around her. That's pretty impressive. People say the don't care all the time, but they do. And you can usually tell. I honestly think this woman doesn't give one iota. Hell. CSB time: I gained some weight while my wife was having kids. I couldn't go outside without feeling self-concious. I don't know how the fark she does it. I wish I could. And not be 600 pounds of meaty, sweaty, nasty to do it.

I guess what Tolstoy said was true. You can either harden yourself on the edge of your own sorrows or you can be like this woman and isolate yourself through your own selfisness and pleasure. That was Tolstoy right? Been a while.

She's celebrated for her talents. Why should her weight prevent anyone from recognizing her talents? (and why should one's weight be a substitute for one's talents?)

Again, unfair comparison. Neither Conrad nor Fox are given the close up facial treatment. (And Fox herself appears to have her tattoos erased... what's the point of that?) Give Conrad and Fox the same close up facial treatment. Their faces would also fill up the page. Does that still suck to you?

Don't lighten Sidibe's skin (and hire Oprah's people if your people don't have the experience properly lighting people of color); and don't erase Fox' tattoos. Either all are given closeups, or all are given the body treatment.

And all need to be in their original bodies, in their original poses, instead of cut and pasted into unnaturalness.

God, I hate photoshop.

They should have digitally lightened her 50 lb. beach ball sized head while they were at it. Disgusting pig creature.

Well they tried to give lardass a full body shot like the other two, but the camera couldn't zoom back far enough.

You know, on account of her being the size of a hippo.

2010-09-18 12:05:12 PM
That's fine that she's comfortable with her body image, but I don't imagine she's very comfortable dragging her body around every day. I suppose she'll still be "fine" with it all when she's confined to a wheelchair because her legs gave up, or she's too fat to walk, or she has diabetes or something.

Mind over matter, right? But I think that's carrying it a little too far. Lose some farking weight, honey, your career will go much further.

Magazine typography FAIL.

Why is one letter of the title behind her ginormous noggin, and three other letters are in front of it?

Why do they put the title of the magazine in a little badge over the title of the magazine?

Why do they clutter the title of the magazine with a banner in the corner that actually goes over the letter which is going over the subject's photo?

Did a child design this cover? I could do better with MS Paint.

Also, despite the fact that I like big girls, I have to say her face is so fat that her eyes look Chinese.

/That was a two-fer.

///Too round.

The Elle article sounds fat.

It was all just a simple mistake. They told the photo editor to "make her look lighter" and he misunderstood.

Knowing ELLE, and their stupid Photoshopped covers, you're probably not far from the truth. They were told to make her lighter (not as fat) and it was mistaken for lighter-skinned (not as Black).

Either one's pretty heinous, though. They suck at promoting women.

2010-09-18 02:07:59 PM
Ironic that the article comes from a publication from India, where skin lightening creams are all the rage (new window).

Overclocked, un-needed worry can be as stessfull on the heart as overweight. Gabourey has good attitude and humor about things, and won't let the off-the-wall slings and stings get her down. She will probably decide on her own the hows, whens, and whyfors of losing the poundage, with a greater chance of keeping it off than all the Oprahs, Kirsties, or even some farkers. She sure as hell don't need us nobodies wishing her diabetic/dead, as much as we have control over her life.

/can't really apologize for the rant, but if one don't blow off steam once in a while, then one's head will explode, and scare the cat.
//then pizza night is off.

Woman's Magazines hate women. Especially if they are dark-skinned, or over eighty pounds, or happy with their bodies.

I love me some thick sistahs, but Sidibe IS too much woman. Jennifer Hudson got the same treatment, despite being an actual knockout:

did anyone else think at first that the big-ass "630+" on the cover referred to her weight?

2010-09-18 08:57:17 PM
To be fair, she looks totally farkable with lighter skin.

2010-09-18 09:52:22 PM
In fairness, when comparing her 'darker skin' photo, her hair is also darker looking. It might just be a trick of the light -- I've done some modeling, and bright lights do tend to wash one out a lot. I (pale white girl) usually have to wear so much blush and eyeliner to keep from washing out that I look like a French mime, yet will appear perfectly normal in the final pictures.

I think it's also typical for magazines to slightly overexpose (thus lightening) their photos to make skin imperfections less visible. I'd say it was probably some combination of the two that resulted in this "they lightened her skin" look.

I'd feel worse having "650+" next to my head if I were a large person like that. You know somewhere, somebody's saying "Gawwdamn, I would've guessed 375."

Saw an interview with her once. She actually seemed like a nice, funny chick.
