I hope it costs Richard L. Conner, Editor and Publisher, his job and his career. To apologize to ignorant bigots for offending them is pure cowardice.

Why not spend some time pondering why America is more anti-Islam than it was, say, 7 years ago. That would be a more interesting conversation. Hint: it's not really about Islam.

ok, this is stupid but i can kind of see the complainers point: it's 9/11 and instead of having a front page article about various 9/11 observances (which the editor said was the planned front page for 9/12 - this is reasonable) they put ramadan observance coverage. it probably just seemed like a huge left-turn from what a lot of readers expected to see on the front page of the 9/11 edition of the paper.

also there are probably some bigoted assholes in the community.

Demanding we pretend Ramadan didn't end on 9/11 this year because of terrorism by an Islamic minority is like saying that we shouldn't celebrate Christmas because of Fred Phelps.

Perhaps those people need to learn that holy days in Islam and Judaism follow a lunar calendar and thus float compared to a Christian solar calendar. Seems like the perfect thing for a newspaper to educate its community about. You know, facts.

Yep. It's because for all his faults, Bush was adamant about Islam, overall, being a religion of peace. Now there's a sekrit Mooslim in the White House, and he belongs to the wrong party, and to make things worse, the new Republican leaders (Palin, Gingrich, etc.) are stirring the pot instead of calming things down.

And if people studied up on American history, they'd know more about how minority groups fared in times of economic hardship.

The Asian Tsunami occurred during Christmas on Boxing Day and will do every year. I propose every article written about Christmas should talk about it or else it will be deeply offensive.

"Nine years after 9/11, there is now a widespread belief that, for one religious group of law-abiding Americans, the boundaries of acceptable behavior are narrower than for everyone else. Yes, you have the right to worship. But it would be decent of you to do it somewhere else. Or on another day. Or in such a way that the rest of us don't have to know about it."

Never in American history has it been so easy to own and control America. Politicians are standing by at the phones to take your call. CALL NOW!

Easter comes one week after Passover, a Jewish holiday, and the Jewish holidays follor a lunar calendar.

Also, I'd like to go ahead and say that anybody who wants to say that Islam is a fundamentally violent religion that wants to rule the world in this thread must absolutely include citations demonstrating that point and must also explore any counter arguments that may also be in the Koran.

Regardless of wether conspiricy theorists are right or wrong about 9/11, it is the single event that allowed the american people, the 'home of the free' to become, in less than a decade, one of the most oppressive, intollerant regimes in the world.

Heck, even iran allows christian churches but now americans are talking about banning mosques.

Whenever you say to yourself 'But x, y and z are to protect our freedom' you need to realise that terrorism never impaired your freedom in any way. Think about it.

Whenever you say that it is to protect yourselves from whoever then again ask yourselves is it worth it? America spends well over $300billion/year on anti-terrorism measures, and while to most people a sum that large has little meaning, if you assume that you have prevented an atrocity as large as 9/11 every single year for the last 10 years then the cost would be $100,000,000 per american life saved. I am willing to bet that if you spent even $10million/year on policing, safety improvements or simply healthcare you would save many american lives.

Not to count all the brave young men that have died in the name of 'protecting america'

Terrorism is about control, control of a nation through fear, just as the cold war was.

Time Ragazine gets a 1/10 for trolling.

They sneered at the Press Herald's desire to rectify their imbalanced reporting. What does that say about Time? The whole magazine has become an editorial

They pulled two examples of reader comments, one angry at the newspaper for running the feature on Ramadan, and one praising the coverage.

Guess which viewpoint Time chose that included a spelling error? ("Sic" oh so innocently highlighted in brackets.) I get it, people sharing a view unsympathetic to Ramadan on 9/11 are obviously dumb and unworthy. Nice, subtle warfare. Blat your yellow horn some more.

I didn't have to read far into the comments before the first pseudo-intellectual showed up with his little "jingoistic" pennant flag and propeller beanie. That's always a hilarious way the p.c. crowd tries to demonize anything patriotically tinged.

Time will be the next shiatepaper bought and sold for $1, just like Newsweek.

This is something to remember next time some bigot asks "HOW COME I ONLY READ ABOUT MUSLIM VIOLENCE? WHERE'S ALL THE NEWS ABOUT THE GOOD MUSLIMS, HUH?"

Because apparently whenever somebody publishes something that isn't about Muslims murdering people, you scream at them until they apologize and promise not to do it again, then use your own suppression of facts you find offensive for going against your fictional world-view to perpetuate your self-fulfilling prophecy, that's why.

I must admit, that's fairly elaborate. All this time I thought you hateful bigots were just lazy and lacked intellectual curiosity, making an argument from incredulity instead; if you don't see it, it must not exist.

Well, congratulations on building the Bond villain/Rube Goldberg unnecessarily elaborate logical fallacy, ladies and gentlemen. You have officially proven you aren't stupid by doing so, and have demonstrated you are instead outright malicious.

Yes, Muslims should just throw out their 1400-year-old lunar calendar because of a national tragedy. Naturally there's a reasoned argument for that somewhere, and Time just chose to exclude it.

Also, apparently, shame on them for editorializing. In an editorial.
