In 2002, Pope John Paul II requested that the media stop referring to the car as the Popemobile, saying that the term was 'undignified.'

Some Popemobile were open topped but the possibility of an assassination attempt led Vatican officials to adopt a new design with a bulletproof glass enclosure for the pontiff.

I like how they mention the objection to the phrase Popemobile but then immediately use the phrase Popemobile. Which is apparently the same in singular and plural forms.

Those are minors per hour. A perfectly reasonable number of molestations for such an accomplished clergyman

With all that glass and armor it has to weight a boat load. Might do 160 if it drove off a cliff. With Ratz in it, please.

I want to see that. I want to see the Pope going by at 160 mph. I want to see him sitting there reading a paper at 160 mph. Heck, 70 mph would be fine.

Does anyone think that glass would stop and RPG? I'm skeptical, but I've only got video games and movies to base that on.

In 2002, Pope John Paul II requested that the media stop referring to the car as the Popemobile, saying that the term was 'undignified.'

Pope Bennidict on the other hand has gone on records as saying
"I've taken enough grief about calling my goddamn car the goddamn Popemobile. I'm the goddamn Pope and I can call my goddamn car whatever the hell I want to."

"Two have been flown in. Each costing more than £200,000, they are believed to have been donated to the Vatican by the manufacturer."

I willing to bet there are plenty of worthy charities that would love to have 400,000 pounds. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that Jesus would really have opposed of the idea of someone like the pope who lives in extreme opulence while people starve. Maybe it's just me.

2010-09-14 11:49:57 PM
It has religious iconography? Isn't there some sort of prohibition against that in the Catholic's Holy Book?
Wait, no, what am I thinking? There couldn't ever be any hypocrisy by religious people.

What does God need with a Popemobile?

2010-09-14 11:57:30 PM
With that much weight up top in bullet-proof glass, I'd like to see its cornering speed.

Also, was there a seatbelt on the throne-thingy in back? Or is *that* what the altar boys are for?

160mph sitting in his fishtank... wonder if he'll trust in god or the traction on his goodyears?

Ye though I speed though the valley of the shadow of death... I will fear no hydroplaning, for the highway is dry... your road and your treads, Michelin Man comfort me.

Amen

Okay, hit it.

Since you asked, it weighs 10,000 pounds. I'd be really shocked if it actually got the 15mpg they claim in the article with that weight and those aerodynamics, it would be a miracle.

Even off a cliff 130 mph seems unlikely. Even off the Grand Canyon.

Weight is listed at 5 tons. Getting 10,000 lbs. to go 0-60 in six seconds with just a 5-liter V-8 will require divine intervention (or JATO).

I don't feel like finding the site, but there is video out there of how a 12 gauge slug at almost point-blank range will penetrate standard armored car bullet-proof glass.

It's the Daily Fail. If a five year-old ran a newspaper, this is what it would be like. You tell the little biter not to kick you in the shins, the kid says "Ok" and goes back to kicking you in the shins.

"Alt" and "Bass" stand for "Alto" and "Basso", Italian for high and low.

Doubtful, since an RPG fires a jet of molten metal via a shaped charge when it detonates. Pretty sure it would melt right through, just like it does to normal armored vehicles.
