You would probably jump off a bridge if you knew how many "natural contaminants" are permissible per the FDA.

No surprise here.

My turn. I was a bus boy in high school. I got adventurous one day while cleaning the coffee machine. I unscrewed some stuff and found a dead roach in the metal filter between the paper filter and carafe. That means every drop of coffee served for god knows how long was filtered through a dead roach.

I read TFA and honestly quite confuse about the above statement... later in the article it's implied that this is a private franchise and not corporate so why would they call the regional manager? Shouldn't they call the owner instead? I mean I would be pissed if something like this happens and my folks call some McD regional manager instead of calling me first... something is amiss in this story...

truth be known.. most any resturant is a filthy hive of filth and villinay. its always a war of sanitation and extermination.

are you worried about roaches? those little bastard usually hitch a ride into the place with the produce. flies.. they fly man.. they run whenever you open the door. you got a full fledged bar? then you are growing gnats in the drains from all the sugar.

you can keep the place as clean as a whistle.. vermin are going to come in, and you WILL have to manage it.

sounds like a particularly nasty place in the article.. but not at all surprising.. poor management trying to keep on top of non caring employees.. there is nothing unusual about this story.. hell.. I have a life story of working at an arbies and picking up the cheese pump and finding the dang thing COVERED in maggots!

there is a reason I dont work food service any more...

but heres some nice food for thought... usually the biggest source of food born illness comes from the Ice machine.. for some reason, no one ever thinks to clean the damn things, where they grow mold, mildew and algea.

they only seam to notice when the machine has black an green snot running out of it and the ice tastes... "earthy"

When I was 16 or 17 and worked at the McDonald's on Laskey Rd in Toledo, Ohio, I opened the shake machine to add some more shake liquid. (Their shakes are made from some liquid that looks like milk.) When I did that I saw a large cock roach floating in the liquid that was already in the machine.

I informed the assistant manager and suggested that we should empty the machine, throw away all the liquid that was in the machine, take apart and clean the machine (which they did nightly), then add all new shake liquid, the manager told me to just scope out the roach. When I suggested that it was unhealthy, the manager stated that if we emptied the machine and cleaned it out they wouldn't have enough shake liquid to make it through the weekend.

After I complained some more, and I think threatened to call the main office in town, the assistant manager agreed to stopped selling shakes until someone could come in and clean out the machine (no one on our shift knew how to do it).

After my shift ended I left. I returned later that night, to flirt with a girl from a different shift, only to find that the main manager came in and started selling shakes again, WITHOUT cleaning the machine, despite having been informed of the roach issue. When I asked her about it she stated that they need to continue selling shakes to meet the sales goals and couldn't make it through the weekend if they emptied the machine and threw away all the roach infected shake liquid.

/Wished I had called the health department.

Maggots in the Espresso Machine. That's a new one. I'm assuming that's the older style machines (all black instead of silver), I have no idea how those are setup internally and where maggots could possibly start multiplying.

I figure a burger must have fallen back there onto part of the machine. Then they decided to leave it there as an 'emergency hamburger'. In case they are already closing for the night, still short in sales, and someone wanders in looking to buy a burger. The machine will have kept it warm and dry, while the chemicals in it would keep it looking acceptable.

The thing no one counted on, the mystery that perhaps will never be solved, is how that burger got enough actual beef in it to support a colony of maggots.
