I'm waiting for my 3 year old to pull a stunt like that. We keep the house alarm on to keep him inside, not bad guys outside.

He feigns sleep until we are in bed then sets upon his evil plans.

I love Carbondale. Do they still have the big Halloween parties at SIU?

Was he riding the scooter or just using it to carry his big brass balls around?

Halloween was given the boot in late 80's. PKs is still there.

old 13 is one hilly mother of a road to do on a razor. New 13 not so bad.

surprised they didn't give the kid to the state. Didn't some couple just recently get their kid taken away because he left the yard during the day? They didn't treat it as an unknowingly missing child, they treated it like abuse.

Does anybody know if Carbondale still has the big Halloween bash?

In the 70's they stopped selling liquor in glass bottles a couple of weeks ahead of the weekend. We used to drive down every year. I remember people passing out on random people's front lawns, billowing clouds of pot smoke. It made Mardi Gras look tame.

Good times.

This must be why when we were kids my siblings and I all thought that alligators liked to sleep under our beds at night. I wonder who gave us that idea....

It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

I told him it was sharks. He tried to sneak a knife into bed with him that night.

Sometimes I wish he wasn't so balls out and smart, but I'm having too much fun to complain.

This is the kind of stunt my younger brother would have pulled when we were kids.

My dad would have spanked the daylights out of him for it. Well earned, too.

As one of the assistant managers at Merlins back in the late 70's I thought Halloween was insane. However being able to sell liquor unitl 5 a.m. during Kappa Carnival was COMPLETELY off the rails. Kappa Alpha Psi until the day you die.

I was going to make the comment that he was going to PK's but I got beat to it.

Do they still have $0.25 Strohs night? Mmmmmm...Strohs.....

I was pissed they didn't have it anywhere the last time I was in Chicago. But then again I WAS hanging out on Rush and its environs.

Had a damn fine martini at Gibson's. "cold as my ex-wife's heart."

I can confirm that Carbondale was still having annual riots on Halloween as late as the early 90s. SIUC switched the week-long Thanksgiving break to Halloween and started closing the dorms in 92 or 93 I believe.

(I was waxing nostalgic about Boobies Beer-garden just this weekend.)

I am an SIUC Alumni- My years were 86-92 (Six years of my life...wasted ;))

Holloween was very mellow my first year...but by 92 two major things had happened. The long time President died my first year. The president that got hired was from the biology department and was determined to make SIUC a "science" university.

And one of the first thing he rallied against was Halloween. It was ruining the schools image. And he wasn't too far from wrong actually... most of the trouble were caused by outsiders and the "Yuppie/Preppie" attitude that was present in my era. People were getting into fights, climbing phone poles and falling off...and then I think there was a confrontation between the police and jerks who were "fighting for their right to party" That was in 91, I think.

SIUC closed down during halloween for a few years I think.
