Hey!

He did NOT!

He should have taken the opening Petraeus gave him to back out of this situation while preserving some semblance of face. Now he's stuck and his attempts to step back from the brink are getting loonier and sucking in even more hapless victims.

He's blaming the Imam from Orlando who tried to play mediator. And regrettably, I think he may have a small point there. The Imam was a poor channel of communication. Still, Terry's conclusion that this was a fait accompli is ridiculous and smacks of his desperation to pull back.

I saw this yesterday at the airport on CNN.

Why do these idiots get airtime alongside persons who genuinely know what they're talking about?

2010-09-10 11:23:27 AM
Haven't we established that Muslims operate under a hive mind? After all, any terrorist attack by a Muslim extremist automatically means that all Muslims are guilty of terrorism.

I can see where he'd get confused.

I have returned from Gainesville with peace for our time.

Last train to crazy-town with stops in Jacksonville, Gainsville, Sarasota and...ah fark it, Florida. Stopping in Florida.

2010-09-10 11:37:36 AM
Even if he doesn't go ahead with it this weekend (which, as a Gainesvillain, I hope he does not), it's only a matter of time before they're sitting around that excuse for a church and say, "Well, we've still got all these books lying around...and the Good Lord did say, 'Waste not, want not*.'"

*he didn't say that

Since we Americans are endlessly howling for Muslim nations to root out and destroy the extremists in their midst, it's only fair that America does the same.

/starting with this idiot, WBC, the "Value Voters" and the teabaggers.

I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, burning the Quoran is disgusting.

On the other hand, if this guy really did burn the Quoran, he'd get a Salman Rushdie style fatwa, and we'd never have to hear from him again.

So its a toss up.

Diogenes: He should have taken the opening Petraeus gave him to back out of this situation while preserving some semblance of face. Now he's stuck and his attempts to step back from the brink are getting loonier and sucking in even more hapless victims.

I'm thinking of roasting weenies and marshmallows over the Gideon Bible (New Testament), the Torah, and the Koran this 9/11. Who wants some fresh processed pork product cooked over religion?

The response to one dumbass is all I ever needed to know about Islam.

Ain't that the truth.

How about we make a deal with the crazy muslim guys. We let this idiot burn his books, and the muslim guys promise only to kill them.

2010-09-10 02:06:21 PM
Religious people lying? Whatever next?!

2010-09-10 02:06:28 PM
I have to wonder what exactly did happen here, but I generally do assume blame must fall on the stupidest link, the Gainesville dumbass has to be the one at fault.

Wait. Are we talking about the crazy pastor or republicans as a whole?

WTF Indeed: How about we make a deal with the crazy muslim guys. We let this idiot burn his books, and the muslim guys promise only to kill them.

Except, the crazy muslim guys already want to kill you first.

I enjoyed this news story just as much as when I read it yesterday on Fark Old news is so exciting! (new window)

2010-09-10 02:08:15 PM
Normally I'd biatch about how many times different iterations of this story has been posted to Fark but it makes perfect sense here. After all this guy is just trollin us all, what better place for a successful troll than Fark where it will drive pageviews just as it's driving news reads and show viewers.

The difference between a story and a non-story really seems to be the number of bites you get.

Stop paying attention to this man.

I think it would be hilarious if he went through with his Quran-burning event, and somebody walked up with a bible, made sure everyone could see what it was, and then tossed it onto the fire. Even better, if the "Christians" attacked. That would be fscking priceless.

It is the same way that people assume that Christians or Republicans or Tea Party Members or Liberals or Free Masons have a hive mind.

People like making that assumption here. This way it is easy to slam an entire group instead of just one nut job.

drxym: Someone should set ablaze a pile of bibles upwind of this lunatic. Let him have a taste of his own insanity.

Wtf does this even mean? Millions of bibles are burned every year in islamic countries around the world and no one says a word. Some doucher in Fla threatens to burn one fargin book and even Fartbongo has to weigh in about muslim sensitivity, and undue provocation. I don't geddit.

2010-09-10 02:11:46 PM
I think this guy is a media whore, but he has a point.

When they burn our flag and murder our people, we are told to be tolerant. But when this guy just threatens to burn their stupid book, they threaten total war. Why aren't they expected to be tolerant like we are expected to be?

2010-09-10 02:11:48 PM
Chariset: Why do these idiots get airtime alongside persons who genuinely know what they're talking about?

When did they let them on the air? Is that new?

2010-09-10 02:11:54 PM
This man is a coward. He chose to cowardly burn the holy book of another religion hoping for a few moments of local fame, then he cowardly begged people to give him a way out when he was called out on it, and then he finally invented this story to wimp out on taking some responsibility for his own actions and call off a mistake.

Although i guess with all the changes the english language has had since i was young, its not PC to use the term "coward" anymore. I understand its now acceptable to use "Real American" instead.

2010-09-10 02:11:59 PM
"he'd get a Salman Rushdie style fatwa, and we'd never have to hear from him again."

What? Rushdie didn't have to lay that low, he kept writing books and banging really hot younger women.

2010-09-10 02:12:32 PM
He should meet with the ground zero mosque Imam guy in an vacant warehouse, give them both pistols, and let them play "Reservoir Dogs".

2010-09-10 02:12:54 PM
smileynyc

On the other hand, if this guy really did burn the Quoran, he'd get a Salman Rushdie style fatwa, and we'd never have to hear from him again.

Yeah, because Salman Rushdie has been completely incognito and has has no success after that silly fatwa was issued. Knighthood, 13 other books, wealth, awards, fame and......Have you seen his wife?! Holy crap, makes me want to go and blaspheme to get some ass like that.

The one assassination attempt against him, the moran blew himself up.

Rushdie is a pimp.

If this was about building bridges and all that like they say, they would take Trumps offer.

2010-09-10 02:13:03 PM
I heard that on NPR today. Some imam putting up a multi-million dollar center that is going to bring in tons of donations is going to not do it so some white trash hillbilly won't burn some books? yeeaaahhhh right.

I shouldn't be shocked any more, but I cannot believe this guy and his idiot crusade to burn some fairy tale books is getting more press than the farking neighborhood in California that has been blown the fark up. There are dead and seriously injured people along with destroyed lives, homes and families and the best we can do is waste airtime and bandwidth given over to some redneck who hates some particular group he's never met. Hell, here in Tennessee we call that Tuesday.
