As a gun nut and fat guy I can see the intent behind your thought process and it's a good one. Really. Cleaning your weapons and maintaining them is serious. It shouldn't be taken lightly. That said, that's a bit extreme, you know? I'm not really sure how he needs more punishment than being shot in the leg with a .45.

Usually those unlawful discharge laws are city ordnance type things, and I don't think they're usually a felony. Likely, he'll have to pay a fine, and they also likely only confiscated them to run them to see if any are stolen. With no felony etc, anything not stolen he should be able to get back from the cops. In theory. But hey, in theory I'm awesome.

He wasn't arrested for illegally discharging a firearm, he was arrested for acting like Plaxico Burress.

I took my a Melior 9mil I got from my father to an indoor range. Loaded it and fired several rounds down range. The gun jammed the spent casing had not kicked out properly and was holding the slide open. I pulled the slide back the spent casing fell to the floor and a fresh round was chambered. I put the safety on set the gun on the counter and bent down to pick up the shell. THE GUN WENT OFF. The recoil sent it off the shelf and over my head then hit the floor by the butt. THE GUN WENT OFF AGAIN. Luckily not hitting any thing but the cinder block wall. I retrieved the weapon and quickly unloaded it. I took hit home cleaned reassembled loaded and put the safety on. Set it on the desk. GUN WENT OFF. sent a bullet through the apartment wall into the neighboring apartment. Luckily nobody was home. Several years later I took that gun to a police buy back in DC and got $150 for it. I hope someone there did not decide it was a nice piece.

What worthless judge would provide police a warrant for a "crime" such as this? That A-hole judge gave these A-hole cops free reign to completely steal anything they want from a guy who accidentally shot himself.

Sec. 53-203. Unlawful discharge of firearms. Any person who intentionally, negligently or carelessly discharges any firearm in such a manner as to be likely to cause bodily injury or death to persons or domestic animals, or the wanton destruction of property shall be fined not more than two hundred fifty dollars or imprisoned not more than three months or both.

So, not a felony - but that might be enough for the guy to have his pistol permit revoked. I doubt it would, but the cops tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to firearms offenses here.

Ahhh... you're clearly ignorant of firearms operation, penetration and construction methods. That's a lot of information for a couple of sentences.

Um.... so yes the guy's dumb, but charged for this? I have often had a beer or two while cleaning my gun after a day at the range.

Testing the guns action is part of reassembly and mistake do happen. Out of the hundreds of times I have taken apart and put back together several different firearms I have had an accidental discharge once and that was do to a malfunction in the gun itself.
Its why you cycle rounds through the action to make sure it works correctly after you have put it back together.

The only thing this guy is guilty of it pointing it at his leg and I bet he learned his lesson. All the people that are supporting his charge obviously are lacking knowledge of anything to do with owning a firearm.
