The victims were struck by a northbound Metrolink 603 train which was traveling 90 miles and hour and was carrying 67 passengers.

Yeesh. At least they didn't feel it.

Why not just take a nap on the interstate. If you get hit by a train, you are too stupid for this world anyway.

Hooray train!

Alcohol was involved-- I am waiting for the "Don't drink and pass out on railroad tracks" public service announcement campaign.

Metrolink, the city of Mission Viejo, and that train driver are all about to be sued to the high heaven. Wrongfully sued by the families of some idiot kids, but sued none the less.

Suicide pact. I'm certain. There's no way you'd walk on those tracks at 6 am without planning to die.

What's with this writing style.

Each sentence is a single paragraph.

That drives me crazy.

It's like a train hit the story and chopped it into little pieces.

For newspapers it makes sense.

They were written for a thin column, not for the wall of text the Internet allows for.

Therefore, it can make sense to share the text across multiple paragraphs.

Even if it ends up looking like a shiatty poem.

Crunch61: /sleeping on railroad tracks... yeah, right.

I tried to learn how to surf in Del Mar, and had to cross those tracks to get to the shortcut to the beach. There is no farking way you don't realize how fast those trains are moving if you live anywhere near there.

These aren't just railroad tracks, they're on the brink of being high speed rail there. Mostly grade separated, fenced, posted, etc. There's no "surprise, I'm a train!" there.

A few years ago we had a kid try to beat a east bound train at a multi track crossing, unfortunately he didn't see the west bound train and ended up having him and his passengers pureed between the two speeding trains. It took rescue 3 days just to confirm the number of people in the car, at the press conference a reporter quipped to the guy next to him "just count arms and legs and divide by four" the chief overheard him and said " I wish we had found pieces as big as that."

Wait, wait, I know this one.
It passes the train from Albuquerque carrying 29 passengers at 8:45am. Right?

Dammit. I never could figure these out.

I'm amazed no one jumped on the possibility the third person [yes, one "survived"] pushed the other two in front of the train. Area witnesses reported hearing laughter and screams.

They met on Facebook earlier that night. It was a suicide pact, and one jumped out of the way.

Yes, but if you divide one body by train, you get three tarps.

I think it was more likely a dare gone bad. They were probably too drunk to get out of the way in time.

Maybe they were dreaming and the only way to wake up was to wait for that train.

That's an easy test. I've been drunk around trains, yet never failed to move when one showed up.

YEah, trains tend not to keep bodies intact.

"They parked near a Starbucks but they fell asleep inside the car, Amormino said.
Amormino said one of the women got out of the car and headed toward the tracks.
The other two followed.
The survivor told deputies she remembers falling asleep near the tracks"

And why on Earth does anyone leave the 'relative' comfort of a car to go sleep on railroad tracks?
