By that logic I shouldn't hang around playgrounds wearing this trench coat.

Stop looking at me.

I'm gearing up to get a pilot's license...

I think planes are cool.

I take pics.

Sometimes my head gets cold.

Yep, hanging out at an airport, with a camera, wearing a hooded sweatshirt...

Why do I hate America?

I did a double-blind study. Most people in the playground prefer the trench coat on.

As far as I know it is still perfectly legal to take pictures of planes on the tarmac.

The text on that poster is creepy. It imposes a request for immediate action from the observer. This is a slippery slope to violent mob fighting beatings of hipsters in hoodies...
And nothing of value was lost

With that single, beautiful post, you just changed my mind on this issue.

"I hate it when guys wear hoodies. They look terrible..."

I know, I felt the same way. Then I couldn't find a decent flannel jacket anymore and I bought a flannel hoodie. I realized that it kept my noggin, which is sparsely covered with hair, and my neck much warmer. So I gave up and started buying hoodies. I hate being a conformist, but there it is.

The next step is to put a penalty on not reporting suspicious activity and we'll be just like Korea. :-(

Indeed.

/Obligatory for a photography thread: Bert P. Krages Attorney at Law: The Photographer's Right.

If anyone ever stops you or questions you, *please* be polite. Being mean and nasty only hurts your already strained relationship with the building or property's management or security.

The only thing I can imagine that the pictured 'photographer' on the poster is doing wrong might be standing on private property, at which point he would be asked to leave the premises (ie to the nearest road, sidewalk, etc.)

I think that we should. If not then it is almost like the terrorists have won.

And that the same TSA that destroyed 9 airplanes in one day. Also the same TSA that has been the primary cause of death of passengers for 5 years in a row. If we want to improve safety just disband these morans.

I dunno. There's something about hoodies. Don't get me wrong - I'm not calling for them to be banned.

I occasionally use a hoodie. Nice to keep the ears warm. Good to keep the rain off the old bonce - but I'm not one of those idiots who is scared of rain. So yeah, I can take 'em or leave 'em. A beanie is just as good.

But jeez, the number of sneaky, shoplifting, graffiti crew, loitering, do nothing, hang around in gangs intimidating shoppers, dodgy little coonts that wear them......

They're only one step away from you idiots who want people to be able to wear full burqas in banks.

Be careful what you wish for.

We all know terrorist all travel with prescription painkillers and government healthcare is paid by taxpayers. So 50 of Seatac's proud TSA were saveing us all one handful at a time. Well that was until the hoddie, camera and Tylenol filled prescription bottle brigade came in hating America.

I will never understand this.

Anyone who actually wants to photograph something for nefarious purposes can probably come up with a way to camouflage what they're doing and appear completely innocuous.

Additionally, it's not as if there is any possible way to keep something that's sitting in plain public view from ever being photographed (even if there was, what about a terrorist with eidetic memory and good drawing skills?), so what's the point?

Do that many people really have that much misplaced faith in security theater?

I only wear them occasionally; never in public, especially on the tarmac with a camera.

At least there was last time I was there..

As a start but pretty much is has to be a felony and the pictures have to get out of the airport.

Pro tip:

When joking, MAKE IT APPEAR LIKE A JOKE. Otherwise, don't get all smart ass when someone takes your post seriously.

Maybe a smiley face.

Maybe a reference to my mum.

Get the idea?

I've been in arguments with fools who think it's a dead-set violation of their human rights to be told to conform to a school dress code, so sorry if I seem a bit conclusions-leapy when similar subjects come up.

Furthermore, I've been in arguments [debates, discussions, whatever you wanna call it] where suddenly it's all "haha well I was only joking anyway" when it was abundantly clear that they weren't. So I'm always dubious of that excuse.

I accept your apology.

Put on something red, white and blue and add an I heart Glen Beck pin(the American Flag pin is assumed) and your cameo is complete. If you are ever questioned just tell them you are taking pictures of hooded terrorists just like the real American who took a picture of a plane with a hooded photographer in the fore ground for their poster.

The TSA is a titanic waste of taxpayer dollars and should be abolished along with the rest of the Department of Homeland Security. This is just another example of how completely worthless they are.

That being said, the arguments being made against this are just retarded. OMG MY HOODIE! Really? Kind of misses the point and makes you look like an asshole. But then it's Wired so I guess that's to be expected.

2010-09-10 05:33:07 AM
I have no problem with people photographing airplanes. After all, the problem here is NOT people firing missiles at airplanes or trying to sneak on, the problem is people getting through airport security with concealed weapons. Photographs aren't going to help much with that.

However, if someone is photographing anything important while trying to conceal his face - unless it's extremely cold out or something - then he's probably up to no good.

Intersting... I live about 5 miles from 2 different airports (one of which has a public sidewalk next to a major road just beyond the fence), and all this poster makes me want to do is go to one of them and take pictures from a public place (like the aforementioned sidewalk). In a hoodie -- although that might be suspicious, as it's supposed to be high of 90 today.

Official Paranoia. The only security these spit-and-polish idiots really care about is their own Job Security.

I'd like to think that in the future we'll look back on this paranoid period in our lives as similar to rain dances and voodoo dolls.
