The Fox released the following response to the lawsuit: "We respect all rights to assemble as well as religious freedom. The organizers were informed that there were two reservations for that date taking priority before their request.

Too farking bad.. go find somewhere else. Stop suing everyone.. god dammit.. why is every farking thing in this country a god damn lawsuit??

"In addition, we explained the Fox Theatre was sensitive to that date in terms of the meaning it has for all Americans, in particular those impacted by the tragedy on September 11th, 2001."

Just what is the point of including this bit?

Dec. 7, 1941 - Attack on Pearl Harbor

Apr. 4, 1968 - MLK assassinated

Jan. 28, 1986 - Space Shuttle Challenger disaster

May 15, 1993 - Crystal Pepsi sales cease

etc.

Look, you can find any given date of the year that is sensitive to Americans.

Came here to ask that exact question.

Basically what the Fox Theater is admitting to is that even if there weren't any prior reservations, they still weren't going to let the dirty Mooslums reserve the place.

/hopes Fox Theatre loses the lawsuit if they can't prove the previous reservations exist

What in the hell did the Bush Administration do to this country?

freetomato: I am of a decidedly liberal bent, but

Yeah, there's always a "but".

Listen, it should be trivial for the authorities to check whether there was availability at the time the booking request was made. If the theatre was fully booked, then there is no story here. If there was availability, and this was an act of discrimination, then what the theatre did was wrong and, I assume, illegal (I'm not familiar with the US anti-discrimination laws).

Or management lied.

It's a 501(c)3 organization so I'm not sure they can make those decisions without a board's approval.

Several of my college classmates lost family members to the WTC attacks on 9/11. Muslims lost all their rights that day.

When they learn to love their children more than they hate our culture, they can have their right to complain back.

Because everyone is a victim. I applaud these Muslim fellows for adapting to American culture so quickly and learning how to pull the victim card. Just last night I was watching CNN and they were doing a panel on the "Ground Zero Mosque" (what else) and one of the panelists says something along the lines of "it shouldn't be built there because it's insensitive to the families of the victims". Religious and free speech issues aside, are we going to have to walk on eggshells for the rest of our lives because of 9/11? I'm sorry that your loved one died but, if you're still grieving nearly a decade later, no matter if they died in a car accident or a historic event, you're the one with the problem. No one wants to except anymore that farked up shiat happens and sometimes people die as a result of it. It's like the word "tragedy" has been removed from the dictionary and replaced with the number of the nearest ambulance chaser.

Agreed with you, and the other posters who quoted me and commented. I'll just say, I'm on vacation, staying up late and drinking wine. I logged my gut reaction, nothing more. By day I'm a DoD civilian and long time vet/reservist. I argued till I was blue in the face to people I love and respect about why the mosque deal was overblown, misconstrued and stupid.

I logged my gut reaction. Does that make me a bad person?

They worship a religion that is a clear and present danger to american freedom and culture. We've seen what they do when they reach a critical mask like in France and Sudan.

Religion is a protected class with our anti discrimination laws. You've got the general idea. If it's found that they were turned down on the basis of their religion, then the courts will have fun with it.

Yeah, this will be an easy one. One small matter of fact to be verified. If it goes one way, non-story. If it goes the other, an ass kicking by the legal system will ensue.

Knucklepopper: freetomato: I logged my gut reaction. Does that make me a bad person?

The gut reaction did not cripple me and distort me from this day forward. I'm aware of it and I don't like it. I have long time north African email buddy who is a white collar professional, Muslim and French speaking. I worked for a branch of the DHS for 6 yrs and it crossed my mind more than once that by merely exchanging friendly emails, I could land on a watch list. I never cared for that. I'm about 45% out of 100% well travelled (in my mind), and I've found the less a person has travelled from home often correlates to their overall racial/ethnic bias.

Still does not explain my gut reaction. And I smile and say good morning to the random Muslim woman I see. The right thing to do.

I'll quit rambling. Back to vacation.

You are excercising hyperbole. I'm sipping wine and pursuing vacation vices I don't normally pursue, so I'll play along. I moved to the deep south from CA about 17 years ago, and the level of subdued, but obvious racism is palpable the further from the city center you get. But that is apples and oranges. I know that US policy has probably spawned more radical Islamic terrorists....in the rubble of the middle East. Many US citizens are of the Islamic faith and are good citizens. The anti-Muslim rhetoric the Fox crowd is stirring up is not helping the "win the hearts and minds" campaign. If my gut reaction has to do with that, well, then it is what it is. But I don't live in paranoia.

Ie, "We were all ready booked, but we would like to point out that terrorism makes our customers turn into huge pussies. Also, when we said Americans, and those impacted, we should ignore the Muslim families who lost family members in the towers."

If I may say, I had a good friend in Atlanta (a NY native) for 4-6 years, who moved to Manhattan around '99. She worked right across the river, in Jersey, and saw the NYC skyline right out her window. She watched it crumble out her window at work.

She was never the same.

She is a scientist, who worked with many foreign nationals. A couple were not quite as sympathetic as she'd hoped during the crisis. She was vicious, vicious angry in her emails after that; we stopped communicating because she attacked me.

9/11 scarred my brilliant, funny friend. I hope she is recovered. If she is not on fark.com she should be. She'd be a star.

a catholic church is free to decline to wed satanists, thus refusing based on religion. I do not understand why private companies have to be forced to serve people they dont want - for any reason. If the company does something that the community deems inappropriate the people are free to refuse to patronize that company, causing it to fail and someone else will come in and not do whatever it was.
