FTA: "When he couldn't get behind the counter of the store in Smith Street, Collingwood, the man, described as African, left the store with a stolen box of headache tablets..."

He's probably gonna wish he had stolen some Preparation H and some KY just in case he gets caught.

"It looked like he had done it before and knew the potential of lighting a flammable can."

I was going to say "What idiot doesn't know the potential of lighting a flammable can?" and then I remember the various Fark headlines about people trying to exterminate pests this way.

When he couldn't get behind the counter of the store in Smith Street, Collingwood, the man, described as African, left the store with a stolen box of headache tablets and got away in a car that was later located in Racecourse Road in Flemington.

Sweet score!

Lighting an aerosol can might look scary, but it's pretty farking weak as a weapon. VERY limited range and it'll singe hair, but need sustained effort to do any more than that. Not to mention the perp will need one hand for the can and one for the lighter unless he rigged something up (unlikely with a criminal this stupid) so you can do whatever while he is busy waving that shiat around.

Sorry, but that pretty much describes me and my buddies from 1975 to 1982. They hadn't taken away our matches yet, and most of us still have all our fingers. (although some of them might not fing so well any more)

Are Africans a big problem down in Australia like they are here in the US?

lo quilty: Are Africans a big problem down in Australia like they are here in the US?

God. That sounded terrible.

I mean, are they statisticly more likely to be in trouble with the law than other races?

Sorry, no offense intended.

I would say most Africans that come here as refugees aren't looking for trouble, but they've grown up seeing violence and unjust behaviour.

There are problems with schooling, education and communication. Steps are always being taken to assist with integration, but it's a tough one to get right.

I wouldn't know the stats, but in areas where there are commission housing estates, there tends to be crime problems. Though I'd be inclined to think this has more to do with socio-economics than ethnic background.

/not a racist.

My wonderful husband and his friends did this once to exterminate and underground hornet's nest. They used WD-40 and then sprayed it into one of their entrance while lighting it on fire. Apparently the whole dang thing went into giant flames instantly and not a hornet survived (they lit the ones coming out on fire).

After their BBQ, the dug up the nest and it was two feet across and three feet deep. Insanity.

I remember one of the last times I got in trouble for playing with fire (shortly before my near-arrest) was when my father found a half burned stick inside the gas can... the sucker fell in and I couldn't get it back, I was trying to dip it in there.

He wasn't happy.

When you outlaw guns, then outlaws turn to bike parts and hairspray.

Hmm...squeeze the hand-brake... that handlebar thingy with the hairspray doesn't look like it would work.

Just sayin', from my perspective.

Not to worry, I'm sure there is already a politician writing up a law to require registration of all spray cans and lighters. If that doesn't stop the impending crime spree from impending then they can just confiscate all those deadly cans. It will take a year or two for them to get around to those scary imitation spray cans. It's for the good of the CHILDREN.
