I should really make fun of one of my friends for this. He's from Mobile.

They are using it to attract bigger named acts to a town's music festival which will bring a lot of money into the community. They are investing it that way in hopes that the money spent will put more than that amount into the local economy from the people attending the festival.

What is stupid about that?

In fairness, a motley crue show is basically a good investment in alabama.. It's a series of concerts. With any luck, they'll make their money back and then some.

//then they'll blow it on another one.

exactly.

They should've spent it on Skynard, not the Crue.

I know, I lived there for 5 years. I'd understand if it was Lynyrd Skynard, but Motley Crue?

Nice to see those relevant bullet points on the top of the article:
# Spends half of recovery money on rock concert.
# Earth Wind and Fire to play as well
# Join us over on Facebook | Twitter

A state I don't live in is using recovery money as an investment that will likely appeal to a large portion of the state's population! I am outraged!!!

Mobile is a pretty good sized cosmopolitan city with a good rock scene. Motley Crue will be most welcome there. It's a testament to Mobile's progressiveness that they didn't spend it on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

I see where your going with that, but is it going to actually help the people affected by the spill (like fishermen, tourist industry workers, oil workers affected by the moritorium, aligator wranglers or whatnot)? Or will just people in the immediate area see the concert and spend money at business that probably really aren't struggling that much?

honestly, that is a good, fair question. its a shame that there wasn't a profession whose job it is to research these kinds of things & and report the facts back to the public in some sort of compiled, continuous format.

basically i was just knee-jerking the knee-jerkers. its how i like to spend my time.

People from the affected area likely don't have the disposable income right now to go to a music festival and pay the kind of ticket price and beer price they will have to charge to break even, let alone make money.

Holding concerts in an area of the country where a lot of people are out of work isn't the smartest idea in the world.

Plus, the piddly amount of money BP is giving to the community is an insult, and would do little if anything to actually compensate for the spill damage, so they might as well blow it on something fun.

Or a motley crue concert.

Concert "investment" is very high risk, and is not the most responsible way to invest this kind of money.

It is likely they will lose their shirts.

If the Motley Crue the I loved as a teen had any heart, they'd do that concert for just the cost of their expenses. Not that I'd expect anyone to feel obligated to use their talents for charity. But if they had any heart, this might be the time to expose it. What the f**k do I know, though?

Do the mods not even visit this site? Why are the same stories repeated day in and day out.
