Short-lived?

Roseanne ran for 9 seasons & had 222 episodes. That's scarcely short-lived.

Geraldo was on the air for 12 years. Again, not a short-lived show.

Which makes me wonder if the submitter even bothered to look at all the shows listed in the article.

I wanted "Chuck" to be short-lived. Farking Subway.

'Bette' was wonderful, funny and fresh but only to a limited audience. 'Bob' was hilarious, IMHO, but putting Newhart and Judd Hirsch together is maybe a little too much dry humor for John Q to grasp.

I hate you. Chuck is awesome.

Also, it's named after a character, not an actor, so it isn't relevant here.

Hawaii Five-O was on for 12 years. And starts again this September!

True, but it wasn't a single-named show. However, it had one of the best ever theme songs.

Oh. Single-named shows with a fantastic personality. Hard to say. That's actually fairly difficult to pull off--you have to have a kind of franchise behind it.

I think the show would have had to have been called "Kelsey" in this case. Seems to be a list of shows entitled with the first name of the star of said show, as opposed to first name of character of first show.

No love for "Cosby", the show Bill Cosby & Phylicia Rashad had after "The Cosby Show"? It was nice to see Madeline Kahn on a weekly basis.

Kirk had a show? Wow. I wasn't watching my TV at that time so I guess I wasn't missing anything.

Subby is wrong though, some of these shows had a reasonable amount of success.

PonceAlyosha: Didn't everyone already call his other show Conan anyway?

This.

I don't think I ever called it "The Late Show with Conan O'Brien".

It's always been "Conan", just like the other shows are "Leno" and "Letterman".

2010-09-09 08:44:44 AM
Don't forget Rhoda and Alice.

Hey...maybe Conan should spontaneously shout out, "Kiss my grits!"
Maybe that would be funny...well at least funnier than anything else he does.

/No, Leno is not funny either.
//Dave was funny once. A long time ago.

Hey, subs. On your planet how long do TV series last? 75 reverse ecklumps around your binary? Here on earth we consider Roseanne and Geraldo to have been very successful long-lived shows. Martin wasn't too shabby either. Pretty much any show on that list that made it to syndication could be said to have done all right.

Oprah = 24 years

Oprah is debatable. It goes by both names. Even the opening credits simply call the show "Oprah" and commercials always say "On the next 'Oprah'"

Apples and Oranges. None of those shows were:

A. Late Night Talk Shows
B. Aired this century
G. As hilarious as Conaw

Some of y'all aren't actually reading the rules of the article: Single name, first name only; name has to be the name of the actual star.

With those rules in mind, the article still forgot Reba, which should fall between Ellen and Martin for longevity.

The television version ran for 20 seasons from 1955 to 1975, and still remains the United States' longest-running prime time, live-action drama with 635 episodes
