"I know what you're thinking. "Did he know there's Kryptonite in the lead box or not?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as I'm farking Superman, the most powerful man in the world, and would blow your head clean off with just a glance, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"

the difference between a decent actor and a great one is picking (or actually reading before you sign onto) the right scripts.

Probably for the best. Eastwood can't do any British accents, and he's sure as fark not Superman.

He does, however, have very good on-screen chemistry with monkeys

LOL I call bullshiat. He did not turn down Superman. Someone at the studio may have thought that it was an interesting idea, but he was never in the running. Once Reeve auditioned for Donner it was a done deal. Still remains one of the greatest casting decisions in cinematic history.

2010-09-09 02:00:45 AM
Big deal. His career has been amazing.

2010-09-09 02:03:35 AM
Thank farking god. Eastwood would have sucked ass in either of those roles. It's just not his style.

Just saw "Unforgiven" (for the 1st time in 12+ years) yesterday.
Badass.

/Good health, and long life to you, Mr. Eastwood.

I always thought that Dirty Harry was cooler than James Bond.

Mash-Up time...

"The name's Man. Super Man."

"Was that one oh or double oh? Well, do you feel lucky, Blofeld?

I'm coming to the rapid realization that Superman had few memorable lines of his own.

I'd still like to see him as old Batman kicking Superman's ass . . . forget which comic book that was from . . .

Gran Torino was absurd. I can hardly believe he released it.

Eastwood had the balls to kill The Hackman, while Reeves didn't have the guts and now only has a taste for fetuses.

Although a great outlaw actor in his day, he should have turned down the opportunity to be a republican tampon later in life.

Dark Knight Returns. Batman was faking his death in public fashion because Superman had been ordered to bring him in. Superman had been weakened arlier in the book by a nuke. Batman softened him up with a couple of cruise missles, had someone shoot him with a kryptonite arrow, and had a power suit. He was choking the life out of Superman when the drugs he took to slow his heartbeat kicked in. Wayne wanted Superman to know he could've taken him if he had wanted.

/yeah I'm that kind of nerd.

Seriously though, imagine if instead of making Dirty Harry in the early 70s, Don Siegel had made a Batman movie staring Clint Eastwood.

Imagine all those gritty 70s cop movies, like French Connection and Serpico, and now drop a Clint Eastwood Batman into one of those. Maybe using a black GTO as the batmobile.

Meh. I don't think it was horrible, just overrated. But, I would have preferred it to be a direct sequel to Heartbreak Ridge with Eastwood reprising his role as Gunny Highway.

*spoiler*

I also would have preferred it if he would have killed the bad guys.

In fact, on second thought, Gran Turino sucked. You're right.

And I liked "Every Which Way but Loose"

Really? He was pretty embarrassed that Reagan used the "Make my day" line in a speech. It's also kind of weird that a Republican would have done a movie about assisted suicide and a movie that sympathized with the Japanese during WWII.

Always struck me as more libertarian than anything.

"Paint Your Wagon" is hilarious. Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin in a comedic Western musical?

I mean, they could have done a comedic WWII musical...

It's the most famous comic book in history, it's not Rocket Raccoon.

Superman isn't Clint Eastwood's style, because he plays characters who could be REAL people. James Bond isn't his style, because he's not cheesy enough for the role. He's serious, and he kicks serious ass, even in his old age. James Bond would've retired by now, and been replaced by someone else under the same moniker.

i didn't get it either. i thought it was excruciatingly slow-paced...watching it was like watching old people fark. good idea and all, but slow. like "unforgiven", another one of his directed movies...i love clint, even met him once, but the movies he directs are painfully slow in unfolding. beef up the script and increase the pace.

2010-09-09 10:21:21 AM
Honestly it was a few years before I learned that Paint Your Wagon was an actual movie and not a Simpsons spoof. I finally watched most of it...it was interesting.

And I think Gran Torinos appeal was it seemed like an older Dirty Harry. Which is cool. Maybe he can do an older Man With No Name?

Fundamental Thereom Of Farkulus: but the movies he directs are painfully slow in unfolding. beef up the script and increase the pace.

This I don't get. I loved Gran Torino, although I can definitely see good reasons not to like it. Let's be honest- it was cheesy and overwrought at points. The climax was a bit... well, anyway.

But the pacing is not on the list of bad things about the film. Good Westerns (and let's be frank: Gran Torino, A Perfect World, Unforgiven were all westerns, even if they weren't period pieces) thrive on having a great deal of breathing room in the script. They're supposed to be long pauses between instants of violence.

Also, since nobody's swinging at the pitch I lobbed earlier in the thread:
I was having trouble with my adding. It's better now.

I'd actually like to seem him play a Lee Van Cleef in For a Few Dollars More type character. He sort of did that in Unforgiven I suppose.

Hummm......'a movie that sympathized with the Japanese DURING WWII?' I think that movie was made a couple of years ago, you know 50 years of hindsight can help. Has nothing to do with Republican/Democrat or anything. More about being a human actually.

Yeah, pity that didn't pan out. It woulda' been cool.
Along the same lines, it would be neat to see him as a supporting actor in a live-action version of Batman Beyond, which I heard was in early production.

You know what I mean, keyboard pundit.
To take on Million Dollar Baby the same year the GOP was falling over themselves too keep Shiavo plugged in and then doing "Letters From Iwo Jima" during a time of war against another group that attacked the U.S. doesn't sound Republican.

When both movies came out, Eastwood was painted by Fox News and right wing blogs as just another example of teh ebil libruls in Hollywood.

LOLWUT? I am a proper "Man With no Name" Fan. I actually thought "Unforgiven" was going to be his swan song to the Genre. The buzz around the movie when it came out was pretty good and I lined up for the premiere at the time.

Left mighty disappointed.
