Now that we know he can hit better than 95% of the Pirates, how long until they offer a contract?

But this one made me LOL.

I will not pick on the Caps fans this early, they still have hope. Better to crush them in another game seven slaughter.

He's already been traded to the Brewers for three prospects and a sack of "magic" beans.

He has more homers then 10 players on the team. not including pitchers.

Considering just about every other headline about Crosby usually includes words like crybaby, douche, biatch, whiner, Cindy, etc it's nice to see a greenlight that isn't troll bait.

This is strange. More posts are defending Crosby than making fun of him. Fine. I will fix that. Cindy.

I'm Canadian, but I always thought Ovechkin was the better player.

That is, until Crosby helped win us Gold. He's got a Cup, Hart, Art Ross, Pearson, Richard and an Olympic Gold Medal now. Don't think I can defend Ovechkin in this argument anymore.

Yeah, same. Ovechkin has a much better shot, crosby has better possession skills and intangibles. He's probably more of a team player too, even though this year his assist numbers were relatively low.

He's a bit of a douchebag, but he doesn't deserve all the hate that gets heaped on him just for being ESPN's hockey poster boy. Yeah, there are other players that deserve to be showcased, but Crosby is a very talented player and he's always working hard on the ice. Can't really find too many things to fault him over.

except he's not on some other person's team, and that team loses to the Pens constantly. That's why all the hate.

I can see irrational hate for people like Kobe, A-Roid, he who shall not be mentioned, and so on. They earned it. They deserve it. Crosby? No. Sour grapes is all that is.

That probably has a lot to do with his playoff run the previous year when he made the decision to be a little more greedy and take more shots. Since he scored 15 goals that post season and 51 last season I can't really argue with it. Hell he stopped passing as much and still racked up 58 helpers last year.

fireside68: Crosby? No. Sour grapes is all that is.

Or it's the fact that he's a first class whiner about calls and the refs protect his ass like a newborn.

Is he so talented it's sick? Oh God...absolutely...that Gold Medal winning goal was ridiculous...at times it seems like he's not human out there.

But their are a fair number of hockey fans who respect his work ethic and his talent, but are tired of his whining and watching him cheap shot others and/or get breathed upon and watching the refs give him the "white glove" treatment on a consistent basis.

Sadly, that's true. If you're building an NHL team from scratch using the current crop of players, Crosby is probably your first choice. There are other players you can make an argument for: Ovechkin obviously, probably Datsyuk and Toews, and if you can get them as a package, the Sedins. But you're comparing them all against Crosby, not the other way around.

As a Hawks fan, I'd put Toews against Crosby on the boards any day, but Toews is never going to score 50 goals in a season.

Coach_J: Or it's the fact that he's a first class whiner about calls and the refs protect his ass like a newborn.

It's been said by many Pens fans that that was a valid criticism in his rookie year. Since then he's not in the Refs pocket like people seem to think he is and when he does complain, more often than not he's arguing for his teammates, not for himself.

The Refs give him the same treatment as any major star, doesn't matter what league, that's just the way it goes.

mrtoadswildride: I guess it's kind of neat...but PNC park's right field wall is only 320 feet...(or roughly the same distance as the field I played on in jr high)...

He cleared the right field seats on the fly, which is probably at least 350-375ft while still well up in the air.

Though I'm not all that surprised a guy who can hit a 100mph slapshot can hit a batting practice pitch 350 or 400 feet. Probably most of the guys in the NHL could with a little practice. Good athletes are good athletes.

That's something that many people don't understand about hockey. Sidney's the captain. The captain's job is to talk to the refs and argue their (and their team's) position. The end result being that Crosby talks to the refs a LOT.

People only pay attention when crosby does it because lolwhining. When it's their team's captain talking to the ref, then it's entirely justified.

The ball punching thing was kinda bizarre though. I'm sure he regrets that decision.

What a doofus Crosby is, he's like a 14-year old when being interviewed.

Can he be traded to the Kings for a sack of beans, please?

Hit that ball clear out of the stadium - so now it's where all the Pirates fans are too!

They're both awesome. But somehow, people overlook the difference in talent on their lines.

Backstrom and Knuble/Semin (I think it ended up Knuble) >>> Kunitz and Guerin.

Yes, but Malkin >>>>> whoever plays on the second line in Washington.

Crosby isn't necessarily going up against the opposing team's #1 defense on every play. Ovechkin is.

The fact that Penguins haters never mention Evgeni Malkin just proves how little they actually watch the games and just parrot groupthink talking points.

Who led the Penguins in minor penalties last year? Malkin. Who is really easy to goad into retaliation penaltes? Malkin. Who had a down year this past season that got some people wondering if he was going to be another moody problem child like Jagr? Malkin. Who ended a guy's season with an illegal hit? Malkin.

Interesting points. Also, please let someone do to Malkin what he did to Mitchell.

there is a joke about ball hitting in there too...

I figure he's too young to be captain. When he stops acting like a brat I can deal with the media's love of him, but until then I hate the little bastard.

/watch other captains talk to the refs... yeah it's a little different than the crosby style.

Did you watch the video? He hits the thing to the top row of the bleachers. I'd be willing to bet that would have been a homer in any ballpark in the majors.

Yeah, but he didn't just hit it over the wall, he hit it out of the stadium (on a bounce). 360 feet is legit. Hope he pulls a Jordan.

He's about the same age as Toews is, maybe a year younger or so. People complain about Toews whining to the refs. as well. As someone above pointed out, that's their farking job.

Heh, good point. What's also kind of funny is that when Keith Ballard low-bridged him a year or two ago, it was Crosby who stood up for him and fought him right then and there.

look at other captains around the league. that whiny stuff is for the other players, the captains should act like a grown up.

my point still stands

Malkin.
