Religious authoritarian funding brain research is still religious authoritarian.

did the dalai lama go broke after that, or was he still able to buy a sweet ass subwoofer? once these motherfarkers start doing too much charity, we're going to start to have to like asking them about where we can get more ak 47's. what? like you've never asked santa for anything special! don't judge me.

How much did you give, subby?

So what happens when research eventually enables us to adjust levels of altruism with little tweaks to the brain here and there? Or when it shows our actions are the inevitable result of chemical reactions that are ultimately beyond our control? It's also odd to me that a leader of a religion that espouses reincarnation would support brain research but I suppose it's a good thing.

subby probably gave shiat. i didn't give a shiat. don't be mean to subby.

seriously, if i had money for this kind of bullshiat, red and orange robes would pimp out tokens that can both get your dick sucked and play the latest video games.

He's been asked before, and while he believes reincarnation exists, he would have no problem at all if science was able to prove that it is not. Eastern religions are just really different when it comes to ideas about exclusive truths.

And obvious troll is still obvious.

When speaking at a Society for Neuroscience conference, he was asked how he would feel if scientists could essentially recreate the altruism and peaceful feeling that he strives for with meditation. He said he was all for it. Of course, you could argue that some of these drugs already exist but I think the idea was more along the lines of a perfect drug that didn't have some of the bad consequences of the psychedelics or other pharm creations.

i don't see why leftists love the dalai lama so much. so some of the donations from yall have been funneled into "empathy research". he's still a religious authoritarian relic of a harsh aristocratic regime that was crushed 60 years ago by communists. big whoop. ow my balls is on anyway.

I dunno. I think the guy is on the CIA payroll. It's good business to keep an albatross around the Commie Chinese.

Not saying he is bad, but that he serves a certain interest to the peculiarities of various American officials, whether he knows/likes it or not.

We get treatments for psychopathy and narcissism, and possibly for Objectivism.

Other than that, not much. If our actions are the result of chemical reactions ultimately beyond our control, that will not change - and they will not change - when we become aware of it.

Well, when you consider that this particular religion is more just a way of living, and that that way of living is centred about us being more compassionate and in harmony with the world around us, well a means to an end is a means to an end.

Gish21: He's been asked before, and while he believes reincarnation exists, he would have no problem at all if science was able to prove that it is not.

That's 'cuz he knows that science will never prove reincarnation doesn't exist, because it is one of those wonderful, untestable, made-up phenomena. So he can rule his little kingdom as a reincarnated god-king all the while giving lip service to rational thought.
