this is bad new for... republicans rooting for america to fail?

/still, it won't do anything in time to save the democrats' bacon in november. let's all gear up for impeachment 2011!

Republicans take over in November.

Stimulus has positive impact afterwards.

Republicans take credit for positive impact.

Gee... what are the odds of that happening?

Given that something like 120+ Republicans who voted against the stimulus are taking credit for it in their districts & states, the odds are 100% because it's already happening.

300 billion? That should be put directly back into the hands of God Fearing corporations in the form of tax cuts you bunch of communists!

2010-09-08 03:41:23 PM
No the "stimulus" will really kick in when we're taxed to pay for it.

2010-09-08 03:44:56 PM
sounds about right, half of the money was designed to be spent during Obama's re-election campaign on pet projects. This was not a stimulus effort but a chance for extreme spending on pork projects that have been held back by the Republicans for 14 years. Federal government spending can not rescue a free market system. It can only hider it.

2010-09-08 03:46:29 PM
If increasing government spending by an extra trillion dollars per year (from 2007 to 2011) isn't stimulating the economy, what hope will an extra $300 billion drawn out over several years give?

Bad News: Republicans win.

Reverse it as necessary every 2-4 years.

So $300B, divided among ~300M American taxpayers? I'll be expecting my $1000 check in the mail next week. Thanks.

Yeah, you know because we all really love recessions and difficult financial times. Having to pay my brother's car payment because he is out of work is just awesome!

2010-09-08 03:50:37 PM
300 billion ~= $1000 per person in America. That is without the interest that we owe China and Japan. How is that hope and change thing.

helix400: If increasing government spending by an extra trillion dollars per year (from 2007 to 2011) isn't stimulating the economy, what hope will an extra $300 billion drawn out over several years give?

Because whether or not the economy has been stimulated or saved can be directly measured right away.

This is just as stupid as people that completely blame Bush policies for the current economy.

Congratulations, you are the reason we can't have a reasonable political discourse in this nation.

Show us your Marx: 300 billion? That should be put directly back into the hands of God Fearing corporations in the form of tax cuts you bunch of communists!

Better yet, Obamao should get on tv and ask for another 50 Billion dollars for a new non-stimulus act.

Yeah, my town needs more sidewalks. More construction closing down the roads.

Half the sidewalks are in. Number of people I've seen walking on them?

Zero....

Number of stimulus signs?

Four.

Really depends on where you put it. It all stimulates. But using the least common denominator as a metric hasn't been fashionable since the idea a rising tide raises all boats became common gospel.

Sidewalks are not typically a phenomenon of spontaneous generation, even if you don't see it happen.

Remember the 2008 stimulus where married couples got $1800? Ya, that stimulus worked awesome too. Totally saved us from the recession that was bound to follow.

/But if only the stimulus was bigger, then it would magically "create" new money to inject into the economy, and we'd have huge economic growth.
//And if that plan fails, it's because we didn't make the stimulus even bigger.

SushiJoe: Yeah, not every single road near my house is under construction yet. They need to spend more of that money soon. Traffic can actually move in some areas.

Holy crap I agree. A 30 mile stretch of I-95 is being widened, and like 7 local roads are also being widened in my city alone. All at the same time too. It'll be so kickass when it's done but until then it's a complete clusterfarking nightmare. You'd think it was the New Deal 2.0 out there or something.

I live in RURAL northeaster Connecticut, in the corner near Taxachusetts and Corrupt Island. Each town is about 8 to 12 miles apart from each other. We are now all connected by sidewalks. They are quite picturesque.

Road. Sidewalk. Turf farm.

Road. Sidewalk. Tick infested woods.

Road. Sidewalk. Empty warehouse.

No idea on costs.

Can't back it up except for what I can see with my own eyes. I travel the roads quite a bit due to work and errands and I have YET to see anyone using one of the new sidewalks.

Listen, rural sidewalks are essential to the survival of this nation. Even if it's just a temporary project and one that doesn't really produce anything anyone wants to use isn't the point. Spending money on temporary projects that have no long term benefit to anyone is what will make this nation great again.

I can't imagine why they'd get funding for it other than to blame your local government/congressperson for getting it through and approved.

Awesome, except where you've interfered.

~Repealed the ban on federal funding for stem cell research, until you reversed it.

yup, kill more babies to use as lab rats to make democrats happy. Adult stem sells have proven the most productive. Baby stem cells can be gotten from placentas and umbilical cords

~Appointed a nobel prize winning physicist and harvard professor to energy and science advisor positions, compared with the creationists Bush appointed the oversee NASA and the global warming denier he appointed to oversee environmental matters

extreme anti-American in a position of power

~Doubled NASA's annual funding

killed Orion that was to replace the space shuttle for political environmental spending.

~Stimulus funds for battery and solar panel research

to China, yes that is where the money went

~Rolled back NIMBY legislation and approved loans for all new nuclear power plants, several have broken ground since

yet closed Yucca Mt. which will limit future growth of the much needed nuclear production

~Repealed Don't Ask Don't Tell

Not yet, but if it happens will ruin moral in combat troops to score political points. If you have never been in a combat unit, STFU because you have no idea what I am talking about.

~Acknowledged atheists as citizens

???? stupid

~Approved highspeed rail

yub from Harry Ried's back door to Pelosi's front door

~Accepts evolution

???? stupid

etc. etc. etc. The real question is why you disapprove of these things. Anti-nuclear, perhaps? Anti-space exploration? A creationist?

Oh never mind you are just a Democrat what ever you called yourself the other day Trolling

actually, we need about $500 billion more, if we were going to do it right.

remember, the stimulus that pulled us out of the great depression (known colloquially as world war II) cost the equivalent of $30 trillion.

Let's get the rest of that money to the Unions quick brah! Every road within 50 miles of the city is tore to pieces whether they needed work or not...

Union guys leaning on shovels making $40 an hour for the win!!!

davidphogan: How much are the spending on these sidewalks? Do you have traffic counts to back up the zero?

I don't know how much the sidewalks cost, but I'm guessing the company that made all the stimulus signs got about 80% of the money. Just from what I know about how much the signs in airports cost (a sign of "Gates 1-30 Gates 31-60" is around 10 grand per sign), I bet that's a lot of the racquet from the stimulus, in addition to it being direct government payouts to special interests.

Yea!! WTF is this guy's problem?!! Maybe if our infrastructure crumbles up that will put us on the fast-track where we wont need roads... perhaps in 2015?
