FTFA, "She told them, 'I hope you're taping this conversation, because if my house burns down, you're going to have to pay for it.'"

And then magically her house burnt down. Coincidence? I think not.

I think her optimism is forgivable.

Can't you all conduct yourselves in a civilized fashion?

I don't know what to make of the fact that I first heard about this from Fark. Firestorms anyplace else would have rated at least first-screen news on the sites I usually visit.

A lot of people could be put to well-paying work by laying the foundations for future farms and cleanup, which at this point means "finding contaminants", followed by "assisting with cleanup of said contaminants". I wonder if parts of Detroit could have been designated as Superfund cleanup sites back when that kind of thing was done.

It would have been money better spent than on bridges to nowhere and bailouts for Wall Street's bad bets, but I guess maintenance and cleanup just isn't sexy enough to merit attention.

If she was so worried about it, why didn't she pony up the 20-30 bucks for a digital recorder and get all the evidence she needed?

Detroit Fire is one of the most stretched departments in the entire country. They are constantly going to work, they don't know for certain that paychecks are going to keep coming. They're fighting some dangerous fires, and guys have gotten killed recently fighting fires in abandoned buildings. But conflagration is a real threat and the fires have to fought. Letting several square blocks burn is not an option, whether they're mostly abandoned or not.

Here's a proposed documentary on the DFD. The cameras were only there for a few days to make the trailer, and the amount of fire they saw is unbelievable. Link (pops)

That too. And, why didn't she call the authorites? Stealing electricity is a crime, and maybe while investegating said crime they would've seen the shoddy workmanship (if any) on the part of the electric company and called them out on it...thus preventing the fire.

Something similar happened with my uncle's business. They were having electrical problems and determined it was with their alarm system wiring. They called the company their service contract was with, but they didn't feel like coming out on Friday to service the system. They said they would be there first thing Monday. Saturday evening the building burned down.

Good thing their insurance was paid up.
