They're a bit touchy about extremism over there.

Yeah, I hear the Germans are a bit wary of that sorta stuff. Dunno why really.

/Hitler.

You know, if all countries were still the same as they were seventy years ago, the U.S. would be fighting wars that had some point other than enriching the coffers of the military industrial complex.

The world is holding its breath -- and it's all down to a tiny Christian fundamentalist church in Florida.

and the only reason the world is holding its breath is because you assholes won't stop writing stories and filling airtime with discussion of this small group of attention-whoring cockbags.

true, if it were seventy years ago, we'd be busy creating our military industrial complex.

AirForceVet: /Can we extradite him to Saudi Arabia?

Better, Libya. They don't like extremists there. And old Muammar can quiz him on the finer points of theology for a while. Which would be so fun to watch.

I've often thought it wasn't "created" so much as "coalesced naturally due to a perfect environment". By that I mean the Cold War.

i dunno, i feel like a lot of the cold war escalation was driven by the agencies and companies that built up during the war, and not the other way around. either way, our current wars still don't make a whole lot of sense.

Chicken or egg... As things were winding down in the late 40's, the people who had had the ear of the leaders of our country started looking around and noticed their source of income was drying up, so they did what they could to keep the money coming in. It's just good business. But the other side really helped a lot. Of course, it was good for them as well, having the U.S. as this great enemy.

/I used to work with a Russian immigrant. One day we were talking about propaganda from the 80s and I told him that when I was in elementary school the chapter on the Soviet Union in our social studies book had pictures of his countrymen waiting in long breadlines. He looked at me and smiled and said, "We had the same pictures of you."

I think that's when our politicians learned how powerful fear was when they wanted to do bad things we'd normally speak out against. The Cold War was like a decades-long post-9/11.

Personally, I am waaaaaaaaaaay beyond sick of hearing about the case. Yeah, it's a farked situation. Yeah, his stepmother probably had something to do with it. But how many nights in a row do you actually need to hear about "cops still don't have jack shiat"?

Most Christians don't follow any interpretation of the Bible. They just feel like they belong somewhere and will vehemently deny anything that contradicts their belonging.
