Apparently on weekends it's OK to being your beat your screaming children, watch your portable DVD player without headphones on full blast, and fart all you want.

They've had these in Japan for quite a while. They are FANTASTIC.

I think that's a great idea.

That being said, I really don't care if someone takes a call on their cell phone while on public transport. My issues are more with those who

1)talk in overly loud voice so everyone else is forced to hear their conversation. Seriously, I don't want to hear about who said what at that party you went to last Saturday night.

2)Those lovely folks who get on the bus, train, subway, etc. with their phone glued to their ear & when they arrive at their destination, they're still yakking.

3)Even worse, those so involved in their oh-so-important personal conversation that they block entrances/exits on the bus, train, etc. Move your goddamned ass out of our way. Some of us are trying to go to work.

I'd like to see how this gets policed, however. Society's pretty farked right now and I'm not so sure about self-policing.

I'm borderline GET OF MY LAWN vs. GET WITH THE PROGRAM, GRAMPS in terms of age.

But I can vaguely remember, when I was really young, when libraries were "sshhhhh!" if anyone started talking. Now? Fark me. Libraries are like a bloody rec room in a college dorm with their constant jibber jabber.

I, too, grew up in an era when you weren't allowed to be noisy at the library. God help you if you were. Nowadays kids run screaming through the library and the employees do nothing. They don't even ask the parents to control their kids. I'm not talking about babies crying, I'm talking about kids age 3 & up that are allowed to act like brats and bother other library patrons.

My wife looked at me like I had two heads (not that fat okay) when I told her we will not be taking any plane rides until our daughter is old enough to understand what "be quiet" means. While I feel it is my right to go wherever I choose with my daughter, I also respect the rights of others being able to enjoy the same without having a screaming child that wants nothing to do with comforting.

As for the train, I throw on my headphones and tune out to recordings of the various Geico commercials. "Does the little pig go Wee Wee Wee all the way home?"

I used to have great fun in choosing a seat at random each week. I got on the train several stops before most of the commuters and had pretty much every single seat free to choose from.

I would then stay in that seat for most of the week, watching the "rightful" owner of the seat get more and more annoyed until they were ready to say something. Then the next day I would choose the one opposite them. :-)

That's pretty funny. But with my luck, having laughed at that means I'll get to the station and the bike rack on the bus will be full.

That bastard Murphy and his law's pulled that on me about a year back. I have a 44 mile one-way commute to work and decided to bike to the bus stop (about 8 miles) than take the bus to within a few miles of work and bike the rest of the way. Bus had spots for two bikes and needless to say I got to ride the 8 miles back home and take my car.

Exactly. This is a country where motherfarkers aren't, "Me me me me me me," all the time. They ain't perfect, but they are at least polite to one another.

gadian: Worse than the constant cell phone chatterbox is the guy with the hacking cough and runny nose who insists on snorting it all back up after he coughs...every three seconds. You know the guy. BLOW YOUR GODDAMNED NOSE AND QUIT MAKING NOISE DICKHEAD!! I used to fail tests in high school because of noise like that. Voices I can handle, but that shiat cuts right through all the background noise and soon, its all you can hear.

There was a woman doing that on the bus yesterday. When she wasn't doing that she was doing these loud yawns, and I do mean loud. Like she was trying to yodel during the yawn. She did that every couple of minutes, then she'd do this weird lip smacking noise for a few minutes afterward. It was like being in one of the circles of hell. Snot snort, yodel yawn, lip smacking, all in a neverending circle.

Any reasonable person can use a cellphone at a volume no louder than then ambient noise and conversation, it is not difficult. Any reasonable person can use an ipod without others hearing it. Why am i being treated like a second class citizen because OTHER farkING PEOPLE are rude and disrespectful in public?! I guess i want my freedom to do what i want when i want... why should I be restricted because others are rude and ignorant?!

Then....don't sit in the quiet car?
