What's surprising here is that a "sovereign citizen" actually had a driver's license, even though it was suspended.

Usually these nutjobs don't get licenses, insurance or registration for their cars. They don't register their children's births or file tax returns. They make the Teabaggers look sane.

In Georgia, they were filing phony quit-claim deeds and squatting in high-end foreclosed homes. Anti-Government Sovereign Citizens Taking Foreclosed Homes Using Phony Deeds

Once again:

1) I swear, it's like there's a species of moron that believes Legalese is a magic language, and that if they can only find the proper charms and incantations to speak and rituals to perform, they will be granted the power to summon and to command, to loose and to bind, and the wish of their heart's desire will magically be granted.

2) If you wish to assert your status as an independent sovereignty, you must be prepared to give answer as a Sovereign Peer when presented with the Final Argument of Kings.

There is no fun in CN, I equate it to RL. Log-in, pay bills, check to make sure shiat hasn't hit the fan, log-out, repeat the next 14 days and then collect to get paid.

Kind of like being an adult and working for a living isn't it. Wake up, work, come home and make sure everything is still there, sleep, do it all over and in 2 weeks, BAM - paycheck.

Getting old sucks

I've always thought that there should be some land somewhere that is of no nation, a place where everyone is a sovereign. This "no nation" status would have to be enforced by the rest of the world; humanity collectively has that place set aside as the place that dudes like this and others like him, people that just can't accept the basic concepts of organized society, can go and feel free (and not bother the rest of us).

Should the people that inhabit this land ever attempt to organize into anything resembling a cohesive society, a multi-national effort is launched to completely eradicate it. I mean, we don't want yet another Australia on our hands.

Heinlein wrote a short story about just that, called Coventry. A quick GIS even turned up the full text online, but I'm pretty sure somebody is violating copyright so you'll have to find it yourself....

Declare him "Outlaw" in the medieval sense, he is no longer subject to the law but neither is he protected by it. He can not enforce any contract he makes nor is any action against him is a crime.

These people want not to be subject to laws, but still want those same laws to protect them...BZZZZZ! Sorry wrong answer.

There is precedent, several "Micronations" have declared themselves countries. Sealand being the most recent, most famous one.

Awhile back a guy was looking for investors in a massive "Freedom Ship", a whole city in international waters. IIRC he proposed computer programming as the basis of its economy, on the basis that the workers would not have to pay taxes. But I kinda doubt that, there are many countries which excuse you from paying taxes there IF you're paying income taxes in another nation. But just claiming offshore residency may not fly, unless perhaps you renounce citizenship of your home nation entirely which is a terrible idea.

Nicely put. I always like the irony that it's exactly these guys who rely most on everyone else's respect for the law. He thinks he's ultimate badass who can take care of himself and his own, but he wouldn't even have to time travel to find out what badass actually is, and the things it can come up with to do to him. Zimbabwe, Burma, North Korea, Somalia - all fine societies where a man can live free without being impeded by the rule of law that at least tries to apply to everyone equally. Might teach him a little respect for his ancestors, and just what they accomplished.

Ya those plans always work not at all. Countries have dealt with this long ago. More or less, you are going to pay taxes in the nation that you live in. Doesn't matter if you are a citizen of another country, you live somewhere you'll be paying taxes there.

It can get complex in the event of overseas work (like say you are an actor that lives in the UK but works in America) but the nations have treaties for that. Usually you pay taxes where the work happens, and the nations have a reciprocity agreement so you don't get taxed twice.

Of course said micronation wouldn't have such a thing so even if you claimed you lived in the US but worked for the other nation the US would say "Too bad we have no reciprocity treaty, you owe US income tax."

The only real way not to be subject to US law is, well, to not live in the US. Move to and work in another country and the US will pay you little mind, even if you are a US citizen. You can, of course, renounce that and sever all ties.

However you can't live and work in the US, but expect that you can play with words enough to not pay taxes.

Everything in his claim is classic Tax Protester buffoonery, right down to the "my name isn't spelled in ALL CAPS" idiocy. Increasingly courts will fine and censure lawyers or pro se defendants for even attempting this defense.
