Also heedless of the fact that Mrs. Doubtfire came out like 20 years ago, and was a crap movie.

Maybe she has cancer and can't afford insurance and that's why she is robbing banks.

That would explain why she is wearing a hat or kerchif in her pictures.

Shouldn't she have some kind of health coverage from the government? Isn't that part of the social network?

:-(

Because clearly she's a gaunt 5'4" man in disguise.

Though she looks more like this lady(pops), to me.

Meth can ruin lives, though. Stealing from banks isn't a big deal. Banks have lots of money.

She could have a really hairy chest and keep stepping on her own punchlines by being a hyper-active attention whore.

maybe she is really really shiat at robbing banks, just as the makers of mrs doubtfire were really really shiat at making movies?

I like this system, and shall henceforth refer to my incompetent colleagues as the 'Pearl Harbour' Programmer and the 'Gigli' Sales Manager

Bad movie, but I still find myself using the line, "I can't take it orally, dear..." for successful comedic effects from time to time.

It's because the notes threaten a "drive by fruiting."

Well the media keeps insisting on calling it "Ground Zero" too, so misplaced nicknames are pretty much par for the course in the US. Whatever makes the headlines.

Most people don't have a realistic fear of prison because deep down they can't imagine going to prison and so don't believe they'll really go there. That's one of the major reasons it's often not an effective deterrent. (Recidivist convicts often believe they're bound to wind up in prison again, so it's still not a deterrent. Not because prison can't be a deterrent, but because we're doing it wrong.)

On the other hand, people are familiar with public humiliation and are generally terrified of it. If we gave all bank robbers embarrassing nicknames and trumpeted them on TV, it would effect a greater reduction of bank robberies than increasing prison sentences for it.

You sound like you've never been arrested. It usually only takes once for 99% of the population. Jail is an excellent deterrent for most of us.

/damn cops stole my money and debit card on intake so I had no way to get home

Arrested plenty, never convicted.

If you have to be punished before the punishment is sufficient deterrent, then there's still a fundamental problem with the system.

Besides, there's no accounting for the proportion of non-recidivists who would not have committed another crime if they'd simply been let off with a scary warning or lesser punishment. A hell of a lot of people who wind up in jail made a single dumb mistake that they'd take back in a heartbeat anyway if they could.

Anyway, I realize it's not a proper sample, but I've known too many people who went to jail and came out not merely undeterred but determined to get revenge on society for sending them to jail. As far as I know, none of them quite followed through, but that was 75% laziness, not fear of going back.

I'm not saying prison isn't scary. I'm saying it's not the right kind of scary. There are plenty of kids out there who see jail as a badge of credibility. No one sees public humiliation as a badge of credibility. Cruel, unusual -- within reason, whatever. Getting raped in the shower is pretty cruel.

Described as a white woman in her 40s, she is thought to be 5 foot, 4 inches tall and to weigh about 110 pounds. She sometimes appears gaunt or sick, according to the statement, and is of thin build.

Because "Cancer Lady Bandit" might not work in their favor.

Washington state has excellent healthcare options for the uninsured (especially those with preexisting conditons and catastrophic illnesses). The hospitals in the Seattle are very accomodating when it comes to charity care programs if you really need it. Not only that, a very nice community clinic with a full range of care services (ie: the treat even major illnesses) is just a few blocks away with VERY accessible costs for anyone without coverage.
