They're already raising hell about it over in Afghanistan.

Yea, something like this could inflame the moderate Islamic world. It's stupid to give this clown any publicity at all.

Wow, total 100% agreement in Farkistan, and with GaryPDX in the thread no less.

I thought that ripping sound was my pants splitting when I reached over to my filing cabinet, but I am pleasantly surprised to discover it must have actually been the Seventh Seal sundering.

If he is so convinced that what he does is right and Islam is evil, why don't we collect some money and buy him a one way ticket to Afghanistan? Preaching to US Christians seems a little bit redundant and a waste of talent. This man needs to be heard by the right people. Let us send him to the people he'd like to convince that their ways are wrong. He has nothing to fear as I'm sure THE LORD will protect him on this holy mission.

The State Department described as "un-American" plans by a controversial church to burn Korans ...

Did the State Department think it was "un-American" when the administration ordered the military to burn Bibles in Afghanistan?

We could set that up online. All we need is a Paypal account. People can donate 1-5 bucks. If he does not take the ticket we give the money to the NY Muslim community or something like that...

No need to hijack him. He'll be happy that somebody is going to give him a chance to do this. I don't think that he want's to look like a squirmy pansiy and chicken out once we give him the chance to convert THOUSANDS of heathens in a 3-4 week trip.

how about we start by collecting 1 buck each on a paypal account and see if we get the money together for a ticket. How much is a flight from Florida to Afghanistan anyway?

This guy and his "congregation" are genuinely horrible human beings.

What in the blue fark is a "Koran burning" supposed to accomplish, anyway? It's not like there's a limited supply of them. In some ways, this is no different than the fundamentalists that bought copies of the Harry Potter books to burn -- all that they accomplished was giving a nice chunk of change of J. K. Rowling. Nor is it different than when they attempt to buy up tickets to Marilyn Manson concerts so that your kids can't go -- these bands are typically more than willing to stay in town an extra day and put on another show.

All that these assholes are doing with their blind hatred and rage is inciting more blind hatred and rage from their brethren on the other side of the gulf of Isaac and Ishmael. Despite their protestations to the contrary, these idiots have far more in common with Islamic extremists than they would care to admit. And not only are they putting American troops at risk, they're making the possibility of another large-scale attack on American civilian interests more likely. They are wastes of protoplasm.

Round trips start at about 2800, one way would be less, but I doubt he'd accept it.

They feed on it.

Since they have accomplished nothing that they can take pride in, and are basically horrid, pathetic little losers, the only way that they can feel good about themselves is by portraying someone else as even worse.

It's the same for racists, anti-Semites, jingoists, nationalists, bigots, male chauvinists, bullies and pretty much every other form of asshole.

nothing that is only beneficial for a US muslim group only. that can be turned around and be interpreted in a way that this is just a pro-muslim thing in disguise. I know there is a group called "Atlantikbruecke" for Europe/US relations. Is there something like that for the middle east?

People who burn the Koran as a show of... well, whatever they're trying to show are douchebags.

People who would get homicidal over some people in another country burning the instruction manual on how to be their preferred kind of crazy are also douchebags.

F*ck religion.

Better than burning Muslims, right? I mean, which he would probably rather do. You know, like Hitler.

the worst part about the whole deal is that it serves absolutely no purpose. i simply can't understand where this pastor is coming from. he's gotta know it's not going to accomplish anything positive.

Too bad the "Dove World Outreach Center" doesn't understand the meaning of the animal in its name...

It's a shame a bunch of us don't live closer. I'd be all for a "burn one Bible for every Koran burned" book party.

But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.

I don't care HOW "offensive" people find this (and it is, I am sure the guy's a huge douchebag;) it doesn't give the muzzies the right to bomb/behead/otherwise murder people in retaliation. As horrible as what this guy's doing is (I don't care about the Koran, but burning books is just really low in general) it IS a sign of our freedom that he can. If we start letting other countries and other cultures dictate what we can and can't do (especially when it comes to appeasing their imaginary god) then we've given up a lot.

So, yeah, he's a douche. But if people set off bombs over this, or otherwise riot and throw tantrums (which they will) remember that they are the REAL evil ones, not the mufftard that set some scraps of paper aflame.

You know, we didn't have book burnings any other year since the 9/11 attacks, and if there were, the people involved were smart enough not to advertise. This is beyond stupid. Dick move.

That's why my religion mandates asbestos pages.

The crazy farks around the world who really do want to kill us couldn't give two shiats if someone burns a book or not. I say burn em all; let's go full Godwin. Fark your religious sensibilities. If they're so delicate perhaps you should reassess your faith.

If some jokers decided to hold a physics text burning I don't think I could make myself care. I'd merely shake my head and lament the lost opportunity for these people to actually learn something.

So in conclusion I say "DO IT." Burn the Korans. Anybody who gets worked up over this would get equally worked up by a woman flaunting her sexy ass in a bikini. I will die for the women in the bikinis just as I would die for the assholes burning books.

Well that's just the thing, isn't it. Everyone DOES know that this will casue a killing spree; and yet he proceeds. The #1 commandant in the US asked him to stop for fear of retribution against the same soldiers who ("righteously") fight for his ability to do such things.
Thanks for the help soldier; now you die.

EvilEgg: I don't think they are worried about upsetting the terrorists so much as upsetting people who we want to be friends with.

The people "we want to be friends with" don't seem too damn upset about the others hijacking planes and flying them into buildings, nor burning our flags, nor blowing themselves and others up on damn near a daily basis, you'll have to excuse me if I find myself utterly unmoved by them NOW deciding to get upset. When I see the same level of outrage at all those other acts, then maybe I'll be motivated to condemn something like this.

In fact, perhaps those outraged Muslims should take their own words to heart, "This is a very small minority, and you can't judge or condemn the whole based on their actions." I've little sympathy for anyone demanding tolerance who refuses to give it.
