I actually enjoy the taste of a Guinness, a pale ale, or a glass of good wine. I don't like getting drunk though.

What's the actual point of the study? It's often the case that when a study that makes the news and it seems like "why did they bother to study the obvious" that actual point of the study is different than what the study seems to be at first glance.

What the study is saying is that the Brits drink to get absolutely legless, falling down drunk. They don't know how to sit down and have a beer or two, they have to have as many beers as humanly possible. A third of them habitually drunk is believable.

These days you can get beer for about 20p a pint in the supermarkets so I'm guessing it's even worse then when I was there - they can sink six or seven pints at home before going down the pub.

Why bother going to the pub? That's where all the shouting and fighting goes on! You also wouldn't want to miss out on the midnight street-peeing, arson and random brick throwing.

Well, I live here, so:

Firstly, the study is NOT saying that "the Brits drink to get absolutely legless, falling down drunk". This study was done on 2000 people aged 18-24. It's a farking leap to claim that a demographic that is mostly students and those who have just recently legally qualified to drink is representative of the whole country. Many people can sit down and have a few pints and not get spastic drunk. Granted, not many in the age bracket studied, but your claim that it's all Brits is a stupid one. So, the study is saying that 18-24 year olds drink to get drunk. Quelle farking surprise. NB: I'm not saying that Brits are restrained with drinking, just refuting your blanket generalisation.

As for the "midnight street-peeing, arson and random brick throwing", where were you out of interest? Because this is not normal behaviour in many places. Your experiences are not representative of a whole country. If they were, I could claim that Spain is full of pick-pockets, hookers and shiatty street-performers based on Las Ramblas.

Moving on, I don't think the Brits are such hardened drinkers, it's just that the rest of you are lightweights.

I live in what could be considered a rougher part of South London and not one pub I drink in has bouncers at the weekend. Have you got any citations or just your opinion which is apparently based on 5 days in Blackpool?
