Somehow colour just makes it all the more real...

I always thought that colours were rationed during the war for use of the troops in harm's way...

I love how, despite much of the city being destroyed, you see buses driving about and people looking like they're walking to work.

Gotta love that British stiff-upper lip.

Turn down the sound and play Funker Vogt's "My Fortune."

I like yours. They use the music from the movie "Where Eagles Dare". Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood......awesome.

Fark this. I'm callin' time machine. How is it that growing up in the late 70s and 80s, watching dozens of WWII docs and not seeing a single color film, suddenly there seems to be colored war footage everywhere?
Someone has a time machine. You think I'm joking? Just wait.

What kind of mouth-breather would link to Yahoo for a story like this?

Surely the BBC is the place for it...

Months of bombings. Over 43,000 dead.

F*cking hell, imagine if that ever happened in the US. The closest thing to it on US home soil was 9/11 and conservatives lost their ever-loving sh*t as a result.

Alternate universe: the previous US administration was the Cabinet in London during WW2. London gets bombed repeatedly Prime Minister Bush the Younger declares war with South Africa because someone called his father a nasty name in the Boer War.

During the war, he says we're addicted to tourism in the Alps, but still invites the leader of Austria over for a hand-hold and a kiss on the lips. Even though they were the ones that made the bombings possible.

I'll remember reading about an elderly fellow who lived through the blitz, interviewed after the London Bombings a few years ago. He was catching a bus not long after, and someone asked him "Sir, aren't you afraid of another terrorist attack?"

The old man replied "I've been blown up by a better class of bastards than this"

Today's America is too arrogant to handle an attack like London saw. Ration MY gasoline? No way! Technology keeps our military on top today, not the spirit of the citizenry.

I am impressed with the way Britain composed itself in WW2.

My grandparents lived through he blitz in Bermondsey and said the stuff about the "stiff upper lip" was honesty a bunch of nonsense. It was an image propagated by the UK government to maintain national spirit in the rest of the country (while telling the Germans that the UK cannot be broken).

For those who were in the heavily bombed areas and lost family members and their homes, they were totally demoralized. It's only natural. However, most are now perfectly fine with the illusion that they kept a "business and usual" mentality during the war.
