"I was very worried and very scared when I heard that my son had gone out into the playground, saw something and lifted it up. I am trying not to think of what the consequences could have been."

There's a very real possibility that the consequences would never be the same.

Best show and tell ever if you ask me. I loved pipe bombs when I was a kid. Hell, what healthy, red blooded American kid doesn't?

LIF-ted up. Lif-TED up. Lifted UP. Sorry, but unless your talking about him doing it to a classmates skirt it just doesn't sound right to me.

There, that's better.

Worst thing I ever found on the playground was a used condom and a half-empty tube of KY Jelly behind the jungle gym. This kid just raised the bar.

They used to find used syringes all the time back at mine.

This has to be a sign that the kind gods above and the good spirits among us protect little children.
If they didn't then none of us would ever live long enough to grow up.

Imagine being the teacher that the kid brought this thing to.

Just another normal day at work, taking care of all the precious young ones.
You know that you have to love each and every one of them just like one of your own.
Oh, what's this? One of my well behaved young students has something to show me.
"You found it on the play ground?" Why, perhaps a small frog or a birds egg.
"It's a pipe-bomb you say?"
...
"Why yes, it surely is."
...
You suddenly know that your life will be about 10 years shorter than had you previously hopped, and there is a god above.

Taken like that, it's an incredibly stupid statement. But you know she was talking about picking up a suspicious object that resembled a homemade something-er-other.
Not that a kid would suspect anything in the first place.

I'm wondering if it was intentional, or if Louis just picked up a Molotov instead.

What lady?

Why would you like to find a non-existent lady and punch her in the face?

You have me very worried and very scared that you picked up something wrong and carried it into the conversation

Those wacky Irish. Always killing people for this and that.

Is the father a lady because he showed such concern that his child was in danger of being killed? Bit sexist

Did you misread and want to hit the parent for making such a statement. Maybe he was a wee bit annoyed that his kid picked up a f*cking bomb, tough guy.

I don't think you've been punched enough

Jake 3988, this happened in Ireland. There was a very strong chance that this was an explosive device, designed to kill anyone who disturbed it.

Do try to keep up.

As this is the UK, the child was promptly sent to jail for picking up the bomb instead of calling the police first. He had tampered with evidence, and it would be a miscarriage of justice to ignore that fact.

I was thinking over the clever jokes about this, as I read TFA, and then it dawned on me that under the circumstances, what happened here is that most likely somebody deliberately put the bomb there to be picked up and detonated by a little kid.
Oddly, I'm having trouble thinking of anything clever and amusing to say.

Fine, yeah - I just originally went into TFA thinking the kid had found some dumbass teenager's attempt at a homemade bomb, or a fake bomb or something. When it dawned on me that it was real, and put there most likely with the intent of getting a kid, my two or three wry witticisms I had prepared just seemed a little flat, somehow.
Sometimes, the shiat I see people doing - man, I just don't know.

I'll explain that. The child's name and school name would place him as a Catholic in this society (Northern Ireland) and I was making light that he may be watched by the English controlled government. I got your point that the UK is described by some as easy on criminals and hard on victims. I was responding to your UK comment because Northern Ireland is not the UK when it comes to your idea of civilians being punished for confronting criminals and criminal activity. The rest of the UK can be as pussy as you imagine them to be. I don't know. I don't believe the Daily Mail. I was talking about Northern Ireland

I'm not trying to be a cock. These f*cking animals have planted things near schools lately. More than the last couple of years. Not all are viable devices but the things are placed near schools. We don't hear about them all but this one makes the news and all of us in NI want to get the f*cking idiots locked up. Terrorism has worked here for some of them. Think how fu*king shiat that is

It would not be fun to be a kid in Northern Ireland. Or even a person.

Every time one of the extremist groups makes peace with the government, someone even more extremist pops up and says "Yeah, well, WE don't want to have peace!" and pulls some crap like this. The Brits do it the right way: They treat terrorists like the criminals they are, instead of like some kind of badass scary monsters.

They may be badass scary criminals, but they are still CRIMINALS.

I was just talking to my neighbor who teaches in a under resourced area last week. She mentioned one of the 'interesting' items a kid brought in: mom's dope pipe. So it was 'bombed' pipe.

Lets see which Brits are scary monsters. In Wales huge gangs of tough sinewy men roam the valleys terrorising people with their close-harmony singing. In Scotland they deep fry everything. In England everyone is an immigrant, and in N. Ireland they put explosive devices in schools to blow up school children.

You may have a point. Us Brits are bad apples.

Evil, divisive, governments and people do that. And more

In case you're wondering, I'm talking about the British, Southern Irish and Northern Irish governments.
