I'm torn on this, because I hatehatehate those stupid cameras. Yet I think in general people would vote for a less-safe more-free world. Sounds great in theory, but do you really want highways without speed limits?

Redlight cameras actually seem to increase accidents at some intersections, not prevent them.

What I think is funny is that they're trying to use the Voting Rights Act to take away the right of the voters to decide whether they want redlight cameras or not, based on a technicality.

Is this the same company that got redlight cameras made legal by leasing an Escalade for a legislator on a key committee? Am I remembering that correctly?

yes, but i do think your vehicle should pass an inspection before being allowed on the unlimited speed sections, and yielding to faster traffic should be enforced

No, you generally don't want people voting on everything. That's why we have legislatures and commissions; we don't get bogged down in voting on the minutiae of daily city/county operations, and we leave decisions requiring expert input to our elected officials tasked with gathering the requisite knowledge, rather than entrusting the situs of the local airport to popular vote.

Sometime, however, an issue comes up that the people decide needs direct input from the citizenry. That's what a referendum is for. I'm guessing that if a referendum was called in the first place, quite a few people are pissed about those cameras.
