So, he's proposing that we drill glaciers. Brilliant!

You mean glacier researchers don't want to make it easier for corporations to decide that glaciers are unprofitable and should be removed so we can harvest the minerals below? Unthinkable!!!

hell boy, i'm already as kool as him, and i got 17 years to get better yet, until i'm his age.

The article, despite heaping on the praise, failed to make him appear as more than an asshole who happened to be a very good chemist.

Seems like he's had some good ideas in his day. Not the one about marrying his first wife, though.

Subby is correct. I'll never be as cool as that old codger.

FTFA : "it also absorbs gamma rays"

OK, that's pretty cool. Can't say I've invented anything (useful) that does that.

/Patent for "big old chunk of lead" was rejected.
//Reactor containment w/o lead is pretty cool.

You missed the point. The point is that glaciers are useful because they do the rock grinding for you. You don't remove the glacier, you let it do its work and you siphon up the water that flows underneath them for the minerals. That actually is brilliant.

I got confused when quoting. I meant to quote this FTA:
"He seems mystified that for all the hundreds of research projects going on with glaciers, no one thought of prospecting."

No patent will ever be as cool as the one for an APPARATUS FOR FACILITATING THE BIRTH OF A CHILD BY CENTRIGUGAL FORCE.

Might not be safe for work (drawing of naked pregnant woman).

That was a good article but it didn't say anything about the time he bounced a graviton particle beam off the main deflector dish.

FTA: "When he and his wife vacationed at Glacier National Park in Montana..."

It's a good thing he didn't run into Richard Watkins while he was up there.

/obscure?

Kumana Wanalaia: That was a good article but it didn't say anything about the time he bounced a graviton particle beam off the main deflector dish.

Thanks. Now, I'm gonna have that damn song stuck in my head for days.

And of course all of our engineering firms are in a mad rush to lay off anyone over 45.

I'd like to pick his brain, but I doubt I'd like hanging out with him. He's going after the mother of his ex-wife's lawyer? Kevin Bacon better watch out.

Last I checked, most were steel or pre-stressed concrete, with a steel liner.

I don't think anyone actually uses lead to shield the reactor, most seem to have plenty of concrete around them inside the containment.

So you're saying he hires illegals then.

No, then they would call him Meester Joe.

Joe Iannicelli, 81, has more than 50 U.S. patents, and his goal is to eventually have 100.

He'd better hurry.

Wow, another Yoda reference. That's some funny stuff! It must be so funny to hear that again and again... and again.

Personally, I didn't find it funny back in 1977, during the first release of Star Wars. I can't imagine it got funnier during the last 30 years, but I also don't quote puppets either, so...

I'm pretty sure the NPS will be after him for removing precious minerals from a National Park. Lord knows that we have to pay for every tree cut down in the National Forest and that there have been many criminal indicitions against people removing artifacts from National Parks, Monuments and Forests.

Did he have a placer claim?

WTF, over?
