Good stuff and the Beaker vid still makes me laugh.

Yes. Yes, it is our fault but I can certainly think of worse things to be responsible/blamed for.

'Cry For Help' ftw.

I really didn't want to like this, but it's not that bad at all.

2010-09-06 04:55:25 PM
FARK YEAH!!!!

2010-09-06 05:03:18 PM
I don't know, I liked the remix better.

Son of Thunder: JasonOfOrillia: Yup, not trusting any links posted in this thread.

You can trust this one (new window)... to be awesome.

That really is genius. Whoever put that together needs to stand up and take a bow.

Epiphany: FTFA:
"So, internet: next time you decide to pluck a random '80s one-hit wonder out of obscurity in the form of obnoxious yet somehow deeply satisfying prank, think it through. You never know what you'll unleash on the unsuspecting masses. Again."

You mean /b/. Are we just calling the /b/ the internet from now on, or is this article writer and these people below this sentence just too dumb to know who's really responsible?

whconner4: Way to go, internet. Thanks so much for that.

Cybernetic: This is our fault.

HawgWild: Cybernetic: This is our fault.

That's what I said!

FTFY, since I'm all ... stupid and whatever.

Ok, I just listened to the new song and I wouldn't choose to listen to it ever again but it's not horrendous. And it also struck me as how young he appeared in the video until I googled it and realized that he's only 44. I thought he was much older. It's may have something to do with the fact that the voice still doesn't match the skinny white boy body.

Shenanigans!: That video makes me dizzy...so dizzy.

this lol

2010-09-06 05:25:59 PM
My God, what have these hands done? Never be clean again...

2010-09-06 05:49:32 PM
The camera moving around in that video is going to make people motion sick.

2010-09-06 06:20:39 PM
The song isn't my cup of tea, but I can't call it bad. There's really nothing wrong with it other than it isn't to my taste. Hopefully this gets him some legitimate attention and he doesn't wind up looking like an unwelcome tard that didn't get the joke.

Happy for you Rick, best of luck.

2010-09-06 07:44:46 PM
Good on him.
He was the butt of the joke, flipped it around and became a part of it, got some publicity and another 15 minutes.
Not too shabby as far as internet memes go.

Although, what's with the hands up in the air in the video? Is he trying to start a new meme?

2010-09-06 08:17:11 PM
how long before this new song is the next rik rol?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

2010-09-06 09:20:28 PM
I like it. But then again I always start singing along when I get Rickrolled, so whatever.

2010-09-06 09:31:52 PM
I like it.

Like a lot of other folks, I did like getting rickroll'd - of the terrible things that people could dupe me into clicking (and I _do_ know the pain of Goatse) RickRoll was... nice.

At any rate, I'm happy for him!

2010-09-06 09:42:52 PM
Good for him. Always nice to see someone get a second chance.

2010-09-06 09:56:11 PM
In the UK, at least, he was not a one hit wonder.

Regarding the new video, I wish he would stop doing that thing he does with his hands. Yeah, that hands thing. Stop it. Stop doing that hands thing you're doing all over the video. Stick it in your pockets. Too much hand emoting going on.

He wasn't a one hit wonder in the US either, he had at least 3-4 Top 40 songs here.

But, like many artists, he was definitely a "one era" wonder... he made a splash in the late 80s, and then basically disappeared until the whole "Rick Roll" thing brought him back to any prominence.

I was rick rolled this morning
/getting a kick

2010-09-06 11:47:12 PM
What the...

When Rick Astley dies at age 100 or something, he's probably STILL going to look like a 16 year old.

Doesn't he AGE?

2010-09-06 11:51:14 PM
HAHAHA WHAT A CROCK OF...
wait.. that song's actually pretty decent. I can see it being used in a tv show, or a montage of some sort.

Emposter: Doesn't he AGE?

Something is afoot here.. not only does he look like he hasn't aged, he also looks better now than he did back then?

Aww, dammit! It's actually good! :-(

And I agree with Dr. Knockboots: This sounds like something the networks would play in commercials for the World Series or NFL Playoffs. Perhaps in a highlights montage of a retiring player.

CURSE YOU, RICK ASTLEYYYYY!!!

2010-09-07 02:07:18 AM
Good stuff. Doesn't sound quite like a big black dude like he used to in this song. Diggin' both styles.

2010-09-07 02:39:07 AM
lajimi: I like it!

He's never going to give it up?

ApatheticMonkey: King Something: This new Astley material is pretty cool, as cool as Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth joining forces to cover Diamond Head's Am I Evil? in Bulgaria (new window)

I just spent the last fifteen minutes idly clicking related videos because I decided to stick around and find out what that sounded like. I'd like them back now, please.

Dude, that was like one of the greatest moments in metal history.

2010-09-07 04:45:50 AM
My favorite roll.. (new window)

2010-09-07 05:22:52 AM
He's been waiting on this comeback for 20 years now, an extra few minutes in the studio smoothing out those autotuned vocals wouldn't have killed him.

2010-09-07 08:58:58 AM
The only part that kind of strikes me as odd: Are we supposed to believe Rick Astley could ever fill an arena just by standing on stage by himself? No band, no decorations, backup dancers or whatever the heck else the label would put up there?

2010-09-07 01:48:10 PM
I hope the legacy of the Rick-roll outlives our civilization, just so future archaeologists and data historians will have to figure this whole thing out.

Drakmordis: I hope the legacy of the Rick-roll outlives our civilization, just so future archaeologists and data historians will have to figure this whole thing out.

I wonder what we've found from ancient civilizations that were the equivalent of Rick Rolls.

2010-09-08 01:21:23 AM
Shenanigans!: That video makes me dizzy...so dizzy.

The camera was rolling around Rick quite a bit. There has to be a shorter term for it, but it escapes me right now.

/hey, I'll take THIS over any Auto-Tuned crap people like Ke$ha put out!
//so the Internet came up with another good idea: bring back Rick Astley!
///best idea since, "I have had it with these motherfarking snakes on this motherfarking plane!"

2010-09-08 05:48:54 AM
sotua: docbenspock: not bad, go Rick!
note to the director, too much camera on a track around him and note to Rick too much jesus arms.

The hell you say "too much jesus arms". He's Rick James Astley, biatch!

Nice! LOL
