Women and minorities were all that was left in the hiring pool when Reagan introduced big government spending on anything defense related.

This sort of misogynistic headline shows the immature level of thinking that
Fark's fanbase, as well as modmins, have come to embrace. It's insulting nature is not even
remotely funny and shows the submitter to be an ignorant, sexually-frustrated hater of women,
who's only joy in life comes from hurting others while sitting around in his grossly under-sized
underwear behind his snot-smeared CRT, with his cheetos-stained fingers.
Submitter needs to DIAF while eating a big bowl of dicks.

Ever been in an office full of women?

Now imagine that environment except they have access to armies and nuclear weapons.

Huh, and I thought that perhaps it had been discovered that Putin was a woman.

FTFA:""We're not overnight successes,'' said Susan Burk, a 34-year government employee and the top US official at the recent review conference on the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Perhaps "we have to work more years to get to these positions.'"

I agree. She had to wait until she was 34 to become a top US official on nuclear policy. That's just insane. Everyone knows that, by then, her looks are going. How will she distract the Russians by licking her lips and exposing a lot of cleavage?

Seriously, though - she's complaining about it taking her probably 10 years to reach a pretty important role in her profession? It took me 10 years just to get the higher walls put on my cubicle.

Angela Merkel, Corazon Aquino, Eva Peron, that Icelandic woman who's name I can't spell, Benazir Bhutto. Either a slow news day, or someone's been under a rock for a couple decades.

It's ok, I understand. You'll find this funny in a few days, I promise.

I had interpreting the headline as:

Each month, we successfully push back the probabilistic projected date of a future nuclear holocaust by 27 days.

It was then very confusing that the article was about the rising percentage of women in nuclear security policy positions.

I'm pretty sure "34-year government employee" means she's been working in the govt for 34 years, not that she's 34 years old. A google image search seems to bear this out.

She's been working at it for 34 years. She has an M.A. in Government from Georgetown and a B.A. in political science from Trinity College in DC where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

This is probably why it took my so long to get those high walls for my cubicle.

Actually, I have inside information that she was grown from a test tube and immediately put to work. Secret government program. You wouldn't know about it.

By the time women came to power, they had spread into millions of offices across the planet. Ordinary women in office buildings, dorm rooms; everywhere. The attack began at 6:18 PM, just as he said it would. Judgment Day, the day the human race was almost destroyed by the women they'd promoted to get laid. I should have realized it was never our destiny to stop Judgment Day, it was merely to survive it, together. The Terminator knew; he tried to tell us, but I didn't want to hear it. Maybe the future has been written. I don't know; all I know is what the Terminator taught me; never trust anything that bleeds for 5 days and does die. And I never will. The battle has just begun.

I'm only 31, but most of the career paths that interested me when I was age 5-10 were closed to women. I'd say at least half of them no longer are, and it makes me sad when I realize that by the time I reached adulthood I could have had many more options that I didn't pursue because they weren't possible when I went through that "what do I want to be when I grow up?" phase.

It would be like any other office full of women. There'd be gossiping, backbiting, drama, and other things that have no real consequences, yet seem to be of great importance to them. Yet the work still gets done.

Could you be more specific? I'm a few years older than you. Which careers were viewed as closed to women when you were growing up that you would've liked to have pursued?

Oil rigger? Pro football player?
