Good for them, that seems like a very nice thing to do.

I loved that book Alive. I will never forget the descriptions of how they had to dig the poop balls out of their butts, because their diet was such that they'd never be able to poop.

I second this. And recommend Miracle in the Andes (new window), rather than Alive (book or movie) if you want to know the story. This is a survivor's memoir of the event, published in 2006 and written with the benefit of hindsight, maturity and facts unavailable when Alive was published in '74. One of the most important books I've ever read.
