I am about Michael Jackson's age, and spanking was a normal thing back when we were growing up. Almost every kid in the neighborhood received a public spanking for doing something antisocial from their parents. Nobody ever said a word about it, it was just an everyday occurrence. Nobody called the police for child abuse and none of the kids had to go to therapy over it.

But if someone beat a child and left marks on them, that was different and reacted strongly to. There used to be a big difference in the two; now lawyers rule instead of common sense and there is no difference. And in my opinion, society is a whole lot worse off because of it.
